Same boat as you. I have 2 large sterilite containers and one medium container filled with stuffed toys. I should get rid of half, but haven't made it a point to yet.
Ugh, forever fighting with this stuffed animal issue. For the most part, my kids don't receive stuffed animals as gifts any longer except sometimes something special, like maybe a zoo souvenir. A couple of years ago, I asked DD1 to go through and pick out 15 of her stuffed animals for donation. That worked pretty well. But we still have a ton. They're in both girls rooms, scattered randomly in the living room and in baskets in a closet. I figure this will just be a battle until they're much older/moved into their own place. I took probably 60 stuffed animals with me when I left my parents. Moved several times with them until they were involved in a basement flood and I finally felt I had a reason to toss them.
We're in the same boat. Two boxes downstairs and one upstairs. They're so annoying. But I feel guilty getting rid of almost any of them!! Drives me crazy!
I love the zoo idea -- saw that online somewhere and thought it was very cool.
If you have the ability, you can make a floor pillow with one zipper on a side. It can be a storage spot for stuffed animals while giving extra seating in a playroom. I've also seen pre-made ones with clear windows so kids can see the animals in their "pillow".
The one I made is full of uneven stitches, but it works for us. I followed instructions for a regular square floor pillow and just made sure the length of the side was the length of my zipper. The pillow itself is kind of lumpy because of all the animals but it does get them out of sight.

These sound like really cute ideas, I'm just not crafty at all. I ordered the nets nd we are going to hang them this weekend.

The girls have some lined up on their beds and then they each have a giant ziploc bag in their closest. My rule is, when the bag gets full something has to go.
