Help end this [playful] dispute between MH and I

We have an event to go to which once again brings up our never-ending playful dispute about my wardrobe. MH makes fun of me (nicely!) because he thinks I dress very conservatively. I don't think I am overly conservative. So here is the question, what is the shortest skirt you would wear in the general public (not a situation like a night club or concert or something where the standards are a bit different)?

I voted a bit above the knee. That's fiesty enough for me. Now that I think about it, I can't remember the last time I've worn something that short.

I said a boy of above Tue knee, for skirts I generally follow the finger tip rule. My finger tips hit about mid thigh so it's a good placement for my body type.

I'd probably wear one that stopped just short of my fingertips, depending on the situation. If I was wearing tights underneath and it's not a professional event, I'd wear a pretty short skirt. If it's a professional event, I'll only wear something that goes to at least my fingertips, if not longer. There's a lot of middle ground for me though between nightclub wear and professional wear.

I actually prefer skirts just past my knees (which are a little beat up and scarred-blame childhood klutzyness). I just hate trying to sit down with a too short skirt and having too much thigh on yucky sweaty vinyl seats. Blech. So it's more a practical thing than a modesty thing - cover bad knees and prevent skin to chair contact.

Wait, I changed my vote to SS because it is season dependent.

If I am wearing thick tights or leggings in the winter I do not really care how short a skirt or dress is so long as it covers my butt. In the summer I wear skirts that are at least knee length (though prefer maxi) because I don't care for my naked legs to be out and also I hate when you sit in a shorter skirt and your thighs touch your seat and get sticky!

I like right above the knee/touching the top of the knee. I have thunder thighs so I don't like to wear really short skirts.

Now? I'd prefer mid calf. No ankle since I'm short and curvy.

Just above the knee, although I try to shoot more for right below the knee for an actual skirt because I like the extra length for sitting. Ideally, for skirts and dresses, I prefer a good tea length, because that suits my frame the best.

I didn't even think about tights as I haven't owned a pair since I was a kid. I understand the weather situation makes it vary, but MH and I debate shortest ever in general public (I should have specified not work because some professions of course warrant a longer minimum than one might be comfortable wearing in a more casual situation, same would apply for some churches and whatnot as well I am sure - a situation like out to dinner, to a store, to a birthday/anniversary/whatever party, etc, where you may see all age groups, anyone from close friends to business associates to family or who knows). Most of my casual or business-appropriate stuff is just below the knee (at shortest), but I do have some a bit above the knee (only maybe 1 or 2 casual, the rest dressier for a wedding or nice party or something). I think I have only worn above the knee skirts/dresses 2 or 3 times since MH and I have known each other, so he swears I am more conservative than I really am. He thinks if your butt is covered, it is good for most situations (we won't even get started on the impractical aspect to many situations). I prefer mid-thigh for the shortest. I figured I wasn't being overly conservative (or under conservative). I have been feeling pretty good about my body for the first time in ages though, so just after this topic came up again, I threw him for a loop by putting on a short skirt from my sister just before he came home from work that next day (I wouldn't have worn it out anywhere though).

The knee or longer. I don't really wear to many skirt/dresses though cause I have bad chub rub.

Skirts are just above knees but I'll go shorter with shorts on.

If I'm wearing opaque tights or just out & about (not at an event/work/etc) I am comfortable with mid-thigh as the highest, which is fingertip length. Otherwise lower thigh or above the knee.

I'd wear a skirt like an inch above the knees but not much higher than that.

It really depends on the situation. For work, anywhere from above the knee to two or three inches above if I'm wearing tights. Outside of work but a non-special event, anywhere from above the knee to mid-thigh, depending on what seems appropriate. For a more special night, like a dinner out, I usually err on the shorter side. Keep in mind though, I'm 39 and despite what people say, there is absolutely an age that you should stop wearing mini skirts-- even if they look good. It just starts looking like you're trying too hard to be young and it's just sad. If it were 10 years ago, it would be all mini skirts all the time.

Completely agree about the trying too hard vibe after a certain point. I know someone who without a doubt falls in that category for pretty much every decision she makes in her life, including the highly revealing clothing (not just mini skirts).

Ditto this. I'm tall, so fingertip rule means quite a bit above the knee for me!

For me I have to feel like my butt is covered, obviously, but my general rule is mid thigh. So somewhere in-between covered butt and right above knee.

I am short though, with short legs, so I feel like mid thigh on me might me too short for a very tall or leggy person.
