Tell me about your NT scan

My NT scans have been with my MFM group. It took about an hour may be a little more, my NT scan had 2 babies. She went over each body part took measurements. She was able to tell me right there if it looked normal. Then my MFM doctor came in did a scan as well, to see everything and confirm everything looked normal and was measuring ok. So I would leave each scan having met with the doctor making sure everything was ok or not ok.

Both with DS and now with DD it was hard to get the measurements. DS was bouncing around too much, and DD had nestled herself into the placenta so they couldn't get the right angle. I had to come back twice after walking a lap of the hospital So if you have plans for after the scan, maybe warn that you could be late.

For the rest you just have to wait for the combination of blood and measurements to come through to tell you your risks. There isn't particularly much they can see at this stage so I can't think of any questions you should be asking. I hope you have a good scan!!!

It wasn't bad. My tech was able to tell us that everything she saw was normal, and then the dr came in and went over the results again with us. DD1 cooperated better than DD2 (they couldn't measure the fold with DD2 but the tech could tell us it looked normal) and then the blood results came back a couple of days later. With DD2, we had already had the Panorama test so we knew everything came back low risk, but the high risk group wanted to do the NT anyway b/c they wanted to look at the placenta and see the blood work in regards to it since I have such a history of loss.

I had mine last week. First we met with a genetic counselor at the MFM's office. She asked a lot of Qs about family history. She explained the different tests and how the chromosome abnormalities happen. Then she let us decide what kind of testing we wanted, in addition to the NT scan. I was scheduled for an hour NT scan (because twins) but I don't think it went longer than 30 min. The U/S tech was awesome, she talked us through what she was seeing. Everything looked normal. Then I went for a blood draw for the harmony. I think I was there 2 hours in total.

Ours was actually really nice--the tech walked us through everything and it was really the first scan where we saw the baby being really active so that was a big thrill and surprise. We were told by the tech that everything looked normal right then and there. I hope you aren't kept in suspense and can just enjoy this long look at your LO!
