I'm actually kind of torn on this. I've loved the name Eleanor since I was a kid. When I adopted my first cat I named her Eleanor because I was 18 and baby names weren't on my mind. She ended up being a wild fierce cat so my best friend convinced everyone else her name was Felicia. I'm so glad Felicia ended sticking so I could use Eleanor years later.

I think Moses is a great name and I get your husbands frustration. The cat has only had the name a year, not a big deal to change it. Your vet may question it at first but she deals with hundreds of different pets. Yours won't be a big issue.

Eh, we've renamed cats before. We named one cat for my dad when he was deployed; he did not appreciate it when he came home and found out, so we changed it. We named another one Freeway after where we found her and it just didn't fit, so she became Tigger--we had to remind the vet about 3 times, but it was no big deal. I'm not sure Moses is worth it though.

The mom of one of my good friends from undergrad had a cat named Rachel. When mom became pregnant with a girl, Rachel the cat became something else and new baby girl was named Rachel.

I wouldn't do it personally. I mean my dog is 5 but his name is his and it would be weird to repurpose it. This is why my dog has a human name but not one I'd actually want for a human.

Besides that Moses is not a good choice for a human. It's perfect for a cat.

Wanted to add that I don't think renaming a cat/animal is so bad. When we adopted our orange tabby, he was 18 months old and had been named Chip. I hated the name and renamed him Mufasa. He had no trouble at all responding to the new name, even coming to us if we called out "Mufasa!"

So, yeah, renaming happens. But I still wouldn't recommend Moses on a human.

I've renamed a pet. My cat had like 3 names before I settled on one so at one point the vet had her down as Lucy, Gemma and finally Piper. I kept changing it because every name I used just didn't feel right. I didn't feel weird about it.

My husband's parents chose his name after knowing someone with a horse who had the same name. He did not find it funny when he was really young but it makes no difference now. His name is incredibly normal. I don't see a problem naming a baby the same name but I see no problem changing the cat's name either.

Once I found as picture of a dog in a box of pictures. The dog's name was the same as mine and was written on the back. She died several years before I was born. I asked my dad if I was named after a dog, and he said no it's just a coincidence, not a big deal...

Just to be clear, you want to name a human baby Moses? I would not do that. I like Abraham and I don't think Abe Table sounds that bad. I would choose it over Moses everyday for the rest of eternity lol.

Side note: I don't have pets so have never gone to the vet but I doubt your vet would care if you renamed your cat.

I'm seriously baffled by all the comments about using Moses as a "human" name. Because...well...Moses was a human. Granted, it's not my style but the mass confusion is a bit much.
I agree that switching the cat's name with the intention of naming your son by the same name is stretching it. So, don't name the boy Moses.
I also don't think Abraham is a bad choice, even with the matchy last name sound.
Tell your husband to make a longer list of names. There are plenty of good ones available.

Exactly. I can't see taking a name away from an animal still living with me, and giving it to a child. That is odd.

Hijack, I absolutely love the name Riley for a girl, but DH won't even consider it because his best friend's last name is Riley and he goes by the nickname Riles.  He just feels like it's too close and overdone.  It makes me sad.  I absolutely adore the name and don't care that his best friend shares it as a last name.

Well Riley is masculine, so it shouldn't be used on a girl anyway.
