Anyone else's LO suck on their fingers? Is this a normal developmental thing or is it because they're hungry? We've been thinking it's a hunger cue, but I'm wondering if it's actually just developmental. My LO turned 10 weeks today.

Pips is teething. She loves her some finger nom noms. Her fingers, my fingers, stuffed animal hands and feet, once even the dogs ear (my poor dog was looking at me like, wtaf!), It's completely normal for them to obcess over their fingers for one reason or another.
Yes! My LO does. She'll be 11 weeks on Thursday. My thought was that it is developmental not hunger. Lots on Google of people asking the same question for this age—it seems to be a thing. LO does it at times when there's almost no way she could be hungry. It seems to be a lot more about self-soothing and discovering her hands. Though this is all just a guess on my part
Oh yeah, DD LOVES her hands. Sometimes I think it's a hunger cue when she's doing other things that make me think that she's hungry-rooting around, smacking her lips, that sort of thing. Other times, I think it's just for comfort or because she's learning and exploring.
Cool! I'm also dealing with low supply issues, so my LO has been hungry a lot...fixing it now, but I want to make sure I don't feed her if she isn't really hungry. These babes can be hard to figure out, and signs can be easy to miss!

I used to be soooo good at reading Pips' signals. But since she started teething, she doesn't know what she wants and neither do I. I feel so bad.
My DD loves trying to eat her entire fist! I get so concerned she's trying to tell me something but at the same time she seems so content with that yummy yummy hand. I think she's been "teething" for well over two weeks now. She'll be 12 weeks on Thursday. My niece got her first tooth at 2 months 29 days and her brother had 16 teeth by 22 months so teething early might run in the family. Yikes!
My LO does this too. He's more interested in his entire fist though. He's always been a comfort nurser so he's on his fists all the time.
This for me too. Since 10 wo. Now that he's 14 he adds massive amounts of drool. Could be part of teething too, who knows, but if it's not his fist it's a toy or his foot.
I can differentiate between this and hunger cues because my LO yells at me now when he's hungry. A literally yell. Lol...
DS has sucked his thumb since day 1. Now he likes to do that or try to get both fists in his mouth. I assume he's just finding his hands or comforting himself.
It's both at our house, if Joseph get's mad when eating his hands I know it's a hunger cue because otherwise he's a laid back baby. Speaking of learning hands little man is now starting to stair at his feet when he or I move them around. I think he'll be trying to put his foot in his mouth sooner rather then later.
My lo just started to do this last week (she will be 12wks Saturday) she sucks on her fist like it's the boob! I've tried feeding her when she does this but she is not hungry. She was doing it the other night at my in laws when there were a lot of different people holding her so I feel like it's for comfort, could be teething too I guess. I have no clue!
Another one who loooooovvveesss his hands. It was confusing initially. He shakes his head side to side with his hand in his mouth when he's hungry. Otherwise, it's just enjoying his hands lol

I wouldn't worry about feeding her if she isn't hungry. If she isn't hungry, she probably just won't eat. I hope your low supply issues get better soon! I know how frustrating that can be!

Mine sucks on his fists. I think it is more soothing/exploring than hunger. He is obsessed with the binky too, so if the fist can replace that to some extent, I'm totally cool with that.

My LO won't take a paci. Glad to know everyone's littles are doing the same. I let my husband know since he was convinced it was hunger cues and I was doubting that.
It started with one hand, now she's doing both, also ten weeks. And sometimes she just stares at her hand in a little baby trance. Since it happens right after I've fed her, I know it's not always a hunger cue.
LO can't get enough of his hands. He's 12w6d and has been "eating" his hands since maybe 9-10 weeks. I think it's just developmental as now he'll sit there and stare at them in front of his face like he's analyzing them as well...I thought he was showing me he was hungry at first, but he refused to eat, so I guess that's not it lol

My lo loves to suck on his hands too. Sometimes just his thumb but he's still figuring that one out. He hasn't attempted his feet. But he's also really long & I'm not sure he's that flexible.

LO goes for the whole fist most of the time, sometimes just the thumb. He also puts anything in his reach in his mouth....toys, blankies, wubbies, rattles. EVERYTHING. He's my little drool monster. It's definitly not a hunger sign for him, it's self soothing and him just discovering his hands and all they can do.
Ditto. Fists in mouth 50% of her awake time! And soooo much drool! And she's been chewing on her wubbanub and wrist rattles!
This is my LO too. She gnaws on her fist and likes to suck on her fingers. I think she does it more as a comfort thing though since she does it all the time. She's always wet! We're up to like 4 onesies a day now since she's always covered in drool.
