Now that it's almost fall, what are we putting on our prewalkers' cute little feet?
The weather has suddenly turned very autumnal here and I actually had to put socks on dd2 today. I can't remember the last time she wore anything on her feet! Time to do some shopping...
I have a few pairs of pretty neutral freshly picked Mocs from when DD was little. Also a pair of uggs and Minnetonka's. If they don't fit he can wear socks until he starts walking outside

We will pretty much stay with socks till she starts walking. Once she starts walking outside we will get her soft soled shoes from Walmart or Payless. Normally I don't shop shoes at those stores but they have great soft soled shoes.

I do socks until they walk. My others didn't walk until 16 months so they actually pretty much went barefoot all summer and started shoes in the fall around 19 months. I do have a pair of puma tennis shoes I will put in her for the gym, they requires shoes as soon as they crawl and dd3 is headed that way sooner than later.

kelltothekell - yes to shoes when leaving the house once walking! They like to cruise all over the place. Dd2 has never worn shoes either, but I'll be getting her something like a leather slipper or moccasin soon. They definitely don't need real shoes with a sole until they are more mobile.
We spend a lot of time outside going for walks and stuff, even in winter, and I don't feel like socks keep their feet protected enough from wind and cold air. Plus it rains a lot here and soggy socks make it worse.
I love the freshly picked mocs, but heck no to $65 for baby shoes! My big girl grows out of her shoes every 4 months... I can't even imagine how fast a baby does.
dizzycooks - my dd1 didn't start walking until almost 19 months (last October), but I still put her in shoes before that -starting around 13 months I think? Before that when it was cold she wore Zutano booties. Did you just have them go barefoot when you went to the park to play and they were standing and crawling in wood chips, etc?

My girls started crawling in January/February and were in daycare ft so we only went home or to the store, no cruising around. They started walking in May or June and wore the tennis shoes or keen sandals at that point if we were at a park. Honestly I just wore them, helped them slide, or put them in a swing. There wasn't a ton of wood chip exploration. In our yard they go barefoot still. We really didn't have a "teeter around and creep on furniture stage" they just stood up and ran so I gave them shoes.
DD was definitely wearing shoes when she started crawling and we would be going out to places where she would definitely be on the go. If she would just be in her car seat or stroller the entire time then sometimes I would just keep her in socks. I plan on doing the same with DS but I haven't gotten around to buying him sturdier crib shoes just yet because it has been so warm. I'll be buying both kids some fall wardrobe items but I won't be buying more than one or maybe two pairs at a time for DS, just because they do grow so fast.

dizzycooks - It's crazy how much of this stuff depends on what season your kid is a crawler/walker in and so many other variables.
Dd1 couldn't walk until last October, but starting in March was gung ho about having us help her walk over everything. If that had happened over the winter our shoe situation would have been totally different I'm sure!

I hadn't thought about this either. Where do you get cute shoes for boys? Do baby shoes stay on? He wears socks at least part of the time most days, but loves to pull them off.

When they start crawling they get slipper socks. I honestly don't remember what I did with mine at the playground when they were crawling. DD1 only crawled for max. 2 weeks anyway and I didn't usually go to the playground with her at that age. DD2 crawled a bit longer, but it was right at the time when we moved, and I think we were too busy moving to go to the playground plus it was November, so probably by the time we were ready again she was walking.
We'll see with DD3. I figure as long as it's not wet out I don't care if she crawls in the slipper socks.
We love Mocs, I have a couple pairs of Freshly Picked (got as gifts) and then just bought some less expensive Mocs in a size up from the golden polka dot. Love little baby Mocs!

I hadn't heard of golden polka dot. Love it! Have your Mocs from there arrived yet? Are you happy with the quality vs the freshly picked? I've been eying some from Etsy stores, but haven't pulled the trigger on any yet.

So they're good quality but not quite freshly picked, you know? Although significantly better priced. I love the bows from that shop as well.
I'm probably just going to get M some thicker slippers to wear when we're out, her feet are so chubby it's hard to find shoes that fit, and I figure socks and thick slippers should do the trick when we're running errands and whatnot. She's already cruising on furniture, but I don't really set her down when we're out, so I'm not too worried about it, since pretty soon it will be too cold for playgrounds anyway.
