Alright, who's gone to Vegas? (And I know we have one person who lives there. I just can't remember her pb name.)
DH and I are planning on going in September to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary. His mom has agreed to watch DS so it'll be our first kid free vacation. I'm a little overwhelmed with al the options so is love some suggestions on where to stay and what do. Neither of us are big gamblers, and I'd like to stay somewhere that is in waking distance of most attractions. (Or a quick cab ride.) and since this will be our first time away since having DS, I'd like to stay at a place that has some nice in room amenities.

I've been to Vegas 4-5 times...
It really depends on what type of trip you want?
My favorite time was when we stayed downtown at the golden nugget. There's a roof pool that's adults only & lovely. Also I like the low key vibe of down town better. ....and the food & drinks are significantly cheaper!
The strip is where most people stay & you can always find hotel deals on one end or the other.
Whichever you stay at you'll want to visit the other one at least once (you can take the bus down town or to the strip).
Everything in either area is walking distance to everything but the strip is more spread out. I was an idiot the first time I went & tried to walk it in heels. Don't make that mistake .
I wouldn't stay anywhere but down town or on the strip. You can find good deals in one of those two locations & save yourself having to transport to all the activities.
I've been a few times albeit not in 4 years now. I've stayed at the Wynn at the hard rock at the aria at the Venetian and at mgm. All had pros and cons.
It's all spread out but being from Nyc it's very walkable to me.
Almost all the hotels are super nice. Sorry that's not much help. Maybe budget would help?
I haven't been in a long time but I still think about the buffet at the Bellagio. That's definitely on my to do list.
As for free entertainment, plan to watch the fountains at the Bellagio for an evening show. They're hypnotizing. Skip the pirate show at Treasure Island though. It was a waste of time. The night after we saw it we drove past a crowd waiting for it to begin and I rolled down the car window and shouted to the crowd "The show sucks. Don't Bother!"

I've been to Vegas 3 times. I've stayed at New York New York and Harrah's and although NYNY is fancier, I liked Harrah's better because it was more centrally located. They also have a PHENOMENAL piano bar there with two twins that do dueling pianos. I went there almost every night haha. Aria has a delicious buffet. Also, the Hoover Dam is not very far from there. My dad really wanted to go the first time I went to Vegas and i thought it was going to be boring and stupid, but it was actually really interesting!!

I live in Vegas. It really depends on your budget. I personally recommend the Cosmo, Mandarin, and Palazzo/Venetian. The Cosmo and Mandarin are located at City Center, which is centrally located on the Strip. The Palazzo/Venetian is a few blocks down and directly across from the Fashion Show Mall and Treasure Island. I've also heard that The Cromwell is really nice. It's next to The Linq, which is where the huge new ferris wheel is located. We regularly hangout at The Linq and it has some great restaurants and fun shops. Depending on your travel dates in September, the pools may still be open. If so, the Hard Rock is also a great pool spot.

I haven't really considered budget. I'll have to check what's the median out there. We probably wouldn't want to spend much more than $250 a night. I'd like to keep our trip around $2500 including our airline. And we're thinking 3/4 nights.

You can do a lot less than $250/night in Vegas on either the strip or Downtown, I know we have. The only place I've stayed that I wouldn't again is Circus Circus.

I've been twice, I would not recommend The Excalibur. Our room was really dumpy and I was not impressed. Last year we stayed at the Luxor. It was nice but not quite what I was expecting, tho the hotel is over 20 years old. Just be prepared for rooms in Vegas to not that the extras you might be used to (microwave, minibar, fridge, free wifi). We had to pay 20 bucks to get a fridge to keep my insulin in.
The fountain show at the Bellagio was great and we saw Boys to men at the mirage, there was also a good buffet there. We saw Gallagher at the Tropicana. He was funny but we later decided we would have rather seen Carrot top at the luxor, and we weren't too impressed with the tropicana. We saw the Titanic exhibit at the luxor, I'd seen it before but it was way better in vegas, and we went to the bodies exhibit as well but that really creeped me out. I love the shark exhibit at the Mandalay bay, and the cool thing about staying at the luxor is it is connected to the Mandalay bay and Excalibur and there is good shopping and dining all without going outside,
I'd recommend the burger bar, and we wanted to go to the minus 5 ice lounge but I was pregnant and didnt feel like paying to get in when I couldn't even drink.
