Ignominious names in the news?

I'm curious if anyone else thinks about this. Two of the names on my favorites list have been in the news for very bad reasons lately: 1) Brock (ugh), and 2) Micah, as in Micah Johnson, the perpetrator of the Dallas police officer shootings. Does anyone cross names off their list for these reasons? It's hard to predict what event/people will stay in people's memories or not. E.g., Brock Turner may be completely forgotten within a couple of years, but George Zimmerman hasn't been. I know something horrible could happen by someone with the same day the day after we've signed the birth certificate, but I feel like that's out of my control, where as picking the name of someone currently in the news is different.

I don't think Brock or Micah really have negative staying power and think most will forget their names over time but something like Adolph would be an obvious no go. Once you name your baby, that name will be more associated with the child than anyone else with the same name.

This would not turn me off of a name I loved, especially if it were a fairly common name that had other positive associations. Except for Adolf; I would never use that one.

I would take Brock off the list though, because I can only picture a full of himself dickhead when I hear the name.

Sooooooo one of our girl names, combined with our last name, was 1 letter off from a notorious baby killer from the 1800s. And we still kept it in the list, because I only found that out by googling.

There are lots of names that are associated with terrible people like Jack (the Ripper) or Charles (Manson) but most people don't instantly think of the bad person when they hear the name.

Brock is just a terrible name, andplusalso Brock Turner is a hideous human being and I know that I, for one, will not be forgetting his name anytime in the next few decades. Micah is a classic, biblical name, though, so I don't think that anyone will feel that it has a particularly strong association with anyone. Like dreadpiratebuttercup says, I wouldn't, for instance, use Adolf, because the combination of it being not common over here and the awfulness of the person combine to equal just no. On the other hand, Joseph obviously gets used all the time because people have other associations with it besides Stalin.

Micah is amazing. Brock I'm not a fan of and I associate it more. George I associate way more with other famous people (royals, Clooney etc ) before I even get to Zimmerman. I wouldn't let that dissuade me.
Micah was and still is on my short list for boys (if ever I have another)
