Ds1 is at DC today and B is taking a nap in the swing with his pacifier. I'm drinking hot coffee and watching Today. Later today I have a follow up with my MW to talk about PPA, not sure how that's going to go.

Spending the day with my in-laws. I guess today will be day 1 of trying to get E to nap in his crib in his room. Not sure how I'll nurse him and try to get him to sleep in the pnp in the living room like normal with my in-laws sitting next to me on the couch esp since my FIL is very loud. I don't have a good track record of getting my babies to nap in a crib so I'm sure this will be fun.
We will just be hanging out today mostly. Hoping DS1 lets his grandparents take him to swimming lessons so I can get a break (and maybe get the baby to nap), but I think he will want me to come.
All in all, I'm not really looking forward to today.

It's preschool day!!! Pre-k to be exact. I'm so excited.
DD and I agreed on a Halloween costume concept. She will be Glinda and Mal will be a flying monkey! I think I'm going to get a witch hat and wear him in the ring sling. I have a cap I'll make into his monkey ears and hat and I'll attach wings to the sling. I'm so excited! DD has very particular ideas about costumes (pink, sparkles, fancy, mandatory) I'll try to convince DH to be a munchkin or the wizard or something but he usually says no, so we'll see.

DS1 has an ok to wake clock. It turns green at 6:30, and the green lasts til 7. He didn't nap yesterday so he slept in today until 7:10. Now he won't leave his room bc his clock isn't green. I think we trained him too well!
I survived a weekend of in-law family togetherness. I had to hear all about MIL's niece, whom MIL considers the perfect mother, and her parenting techniques. We have not let our 4yo play with iPads, smart phones etc yet. I'm not anti-screen, I just find it easier to regulate the TV since it never leaves the living room.
Anyway MIL spent 20 min trying to talk me into getting my kid an iPad or Kindle. I was like what the heck, where did this come from? What grandparent tries to push more screen time on their grandkids? Then it came out- the niece lets her kids play educational games (!!!) on their iPad so I should too.

I have to call an eye Dr today for a vision test for L. I also have an appt with L's teacher on his progress. She says he is behind where a starting 1st grader should be. I am not sure that L is focusing or trying in school just from some of the things I have seen come home. It's all stressing me out.

Good luck! I teach first grade so let me know if you need anything. When did they start school? It seems awfully early to have the "I'm concerned about your kids progress" meeting.

He started school about 5 weeks ago. He can do addition and subtraction at home but he seems to be struggling with it in the classroom. I am not sure what his deal is in regards to that.
Really it's all the other stuff I am concerned with. They are expecting him to be able to write out full sentences, that make sense, with the beginning letter capitalized and a period at the end already. Is that what 1st graders are supposed to be able to do 4 weeks in? It seems like a lot.
We are trying to work with him on everything on top of the homework she assigns every day that lasts about 1-1.5 hours but it's hard! 1-1.5 hours of homework everyday for a 6.5 year old seems excessive as well.

Now I'm even more against it lol.
My youngest niece is ALWAYS on her ipad even when she is visiting family that she sees once in a blue moon. To be honest I found it really rude the one time she came up to visit she was on the ipad the whole time.
Good for you! Your kid will actually know how to socialize in person!!!

I hope everything works out. Hopefully as the year goes on he gets better at it.

Ehhh...5 weeks into school, no I still wouldn't be having this conversation with a parent. I know you didn't ask for it but here is what I would talk to his teacher about:
-most important is how is the teacher coming to the conclusion he is struggling. What specific areas and how did she measure his success over these five weeks. I would assume she has a portfolio started on his beginning of the year assessments and his class work. Ask to see this.
- where is he sitting in class? In a group? Is his back of side to the board? Make sure he is facing the board directly.
- does the class have a Basic Skills teacher? Ask that he be evaluated by this person ASAP and see the results. Basic skills should be available in all rooms and it addresses specific areas of concern in the curriculum.
- are there behavioral or attention problems? If there are bring them up with your pedi even if you don't see them at home. Ask the school if there is an Intervention Team to help you navigate this process.
What state are you in? I can help you look up the standards specifically for this if you want.
As of tonight I am be back on Cymbalta. Starting at 30mg for 2 weeks and then up to 60mg. Which was what I was on a few years back. This one should also help me with my energy! It made me really sad to hear the nurse say how many women don't get help for the PPD.
Also I will be getting xrays of my knee. She could feel fluid in it and this was on a good day for my knee. I will be getting a knee brace tonight.

I am so frustrated by this baby's 10 minute naps. Can she really just not need to sleep more? She's fairly pleasant and alert for an 8 week old when she is awake.

I hate cat naps. B wakes up 25 minutes exactly from when I put him down. Every single time. Hopefully he will start getting better at connecting his sleep cycles because this sucks.

melody330 We are in TN. Thank you so much for giving me some talking points! I was feeling totally lost and that helps a lot.
ETA: His teacher sent a mid quarter progress report home a week ago and she indicates that he is behind in basically everything. H and I are both having a problem wrapping our heads around this when it feels like he has just barely started 1st grade... It feels like he is just now getting into the swing of things. This is his first year in public school so it's all new to him.

Ok I found them. Go to the drop down menu for K-8 and select first grade. Keep in mind these are goals that need to be met by the end of first grade.
I'm back! We just spent a week in Minnesota for my dad's wedding. It was a blast, but holy shit, flying two kids across the country requires so much crap. I dropped DD1 off at her first day at her new daycare and now I'm trying to tackle a mountain of laundry. I missed y'all!

Just killed somewhere between 10-15 yellowjackets in my laundry room. How we purchased a home that yearly attacts these insects to build huge nests in our walls is beyond me. There are still a couple alive in there but the baby woke up. He has been sleep most of the day maybe he is making up for being awake most of the weekend.

No thank you, please. Time to move.
Agreed drives me nuts almost every fall. We close little gaps in the siding every year and they find new little gaps to get in the next year.

That is what I'm afraid of! And my kid is a relentless beggar, so as her mom it's just easier to not start something than to have to say no to it 65,000 times.
Also I am so glad you are getting help for PPD. I hope you start to feel better quick.

Stay strong on this one! The best thing that ever happened was our iPad breaking (well, it was stolen and broken, but whatevs). My DD is also a relentless beggar and was basically obsessed with the iPad. Her behavior is so much better without that thing present in our house and she really gets only a tiny sliver of screen time now. I'm definitely not anti screen time, it just does horrible things to DD so making it rare really works for us.

Baby is so fussy and sleepy today. Not that I can regularly put him down, but it seems worse than normal today. His awake times have been getting longer and he's pretty happy when awake, but not today.
