Yay I was waiting for this thread.
I'm working on my first ever crochet project. Thanks to YouTube it's going pretty well. I got about ten rows in and had to rip out the entire thing up because I realized I was doing it wrong. I think it might have been too ambitious a first project but I think it looks pretty great for a noob.
GTKY: DH and I are going to a new restaurant that we haven't tried yet. I bought him a watch and made him a cutesy card. Below is a picture of what he got me. We exchanged early because he's impatient. This was sitting on the dining room table when I got home yesterday. He made the rose in a glass display to mimic Beauty and the Beast and he got us tickets to see Beauty and the Beast live. He's so cute :-)
I worked on more ceramics and glazed some that didn't make it into the last load. Might get another fire in this weekend. I also made DD a knit Ottobre dress/tunic yesterday for her Valentine's Day party, but, she wanted to wear it today- ha. I started a spring sweater for her. I think that's it, it's been a busy week for non-crafty things.
We don't do Valentine's day- my years of working for Hallmark as a teen ruined that "holiday" for me, at least the adult side of it. The kids and I will probably bake and decorate sugar cookies, but, we'll use any excuse for that. And I decorate! Because the colors make me happy.

What are you making? Still working on a crocheted baby blanket for a friend. Her shower is on the 28th - gotta get a move on!
Are you happy with your progress? With DD sick all weekend, I didn't get as much time to work on it as I wanted, but I'm almost halfway done, so I'm pretty happy.
Don't forget pictures if you have them! Still haven't set up a hosting site to upload pics. I'll work on that.
GTKY: What are your valentine's day plans? Do you buy/make gifts for your DH and/or kids? If so, what are you giving them? Since DD is only 8 months I'm not planning on doing anything for her yet. I got her a card for her 'First Valentine's Day' for the scrapbook, but that's it. DH and I are planning to have dinner in on the 14th, the go out for a nice dinner on the 21st. Trying to go out on the 14th around here is a nightmare especially with it being a Saturday this year!

What are you making? Kitting socks and stitching cross stitch
Are you happy with your progress? The cross stitch is coming along, but I had to rip 3 rows out of the sock I am working on because I reversed the stitch
Don't forget pictures if you have them!No pics cause until it's just about done cross stitch looks like nothing much at all
GTKY: What are your valentine's day plans? Do you buy/make gifts for your DH and/or kids? If so, what are you giving them? No plans. I need to pick up a valentines stuffie for DS and DD will be getting a cute ribbon headband. They only get one valentines stuffie so I like to make it something origional for their 1st one. DD received a dragon for her 1st Valentines, we call it the "Love Dragon" lol
I am pretty limited at what I can work on, so I have barely touched LO's play food project. I did a bit of crocheting for the first time in 20+ years. I started and finished one dish cloth and am just shy of 1/4 of the way into a second. I am happy with how quickly it came back to me even though I hardly had any experience (and mostly just chains at that) even when I did crochet as a kid. I was worried that they would end up being thicker than I wanted, and I was right. I really only had two thicknesses of yarn to choose from though, and the thinner would have been thinner than I wanted. I think I will finish making some thicker ones with what yarn I still have then get some of the thinner stuff and either just use the dish cloths on the thin side or double them up depending how thick they turn out. Should have followed my gut from the start but oh well; what I have will still be useful. LO enjoyed picking a color and "helping" crochet.
We don't celebrate Valentine's Day. If we think of it, we may say "Happy Valentine's Day!" but that is the extent of our acknowledging the holiday. Maybe LO and I will make a dessert if I get around to it, but that isn't out of the norm for us on any given day.
Last week I made an embroidery project pouch, a needle book, and valentines for my son's preschool class.
What are you making? I'm making some fabric wrapped wooden spoons (wrapping the handles) and another project pouch/needle book set. I'd also like to finish the wooden conversation heart wall hanging(s) I started last year, hopefully before the 14th.
Are you happy with your progress? I feel like I've been doing a good job of completing and finishing new projects. I'd like to finish up some more of my older WIP though.
GTKY: We don't usually do much for Valentine's Day. My husband usually gets me a card and something small, like chocolates, and I make a nice dinner and dessert. This year, we got the kids each a book. My son is getting Hug Machine by Scott Campbell, and my daughter is getting Elmo Loves You. I'm really bad about thinking up good gifts for my husband, so I wouldn't mind if we switched the V-Day focus to the kids instead of ourselves.
What are you making? I'm still knitting the same prayer shawl... Are you happy with your progress? My goal was to finish the pound I was on by the end of February. I finished it while watching the Superbowl. I'm about 35" in and figure I'll get to 54". If I do 5" a week for the next month I'll be excited. Don't forget pictures if you have them!
GTKY: What are your valentine's day plans? Do you buy/make gifts for your DH and/or kids? If so, what are you giving them? DH is getting a computer for his bicycle! Too bad he knows because he got the Amazon notification. We were just planning on cuddling and watching movies but then I got offered free tickets to a local fundraiser. Now we will be going to a talent show and then the after party (aka free beer, wine, dessert, and appetizers). I'm pretty darn excited.
cam Idk how thick you like yours, but I've been using this because it's cheap. That's not usually a plus but I'm pretty rough on dish cloths and I don't have dishwasher.
Thanks! I think what you posted is the exact stuff I had talked myself out of using. I don't have a dishwasher either, so mine definitely get some good use too. I had been using knit ones that my family all use too, but the ones I got more recently are in as bad if not worse shape than my much older ones, so I think the quality has tanked. I love the size of my knit ones because they are in between a regular cloth and a bar rag, so it helps to squish down into the bottom of glassware. I haven't found others that size. The thickness is also just right because I can feel if the dishes still have something stuck on them but they are thick enough to hold up to knifes and forks. I think the stuff you posted will be a much closer match in thickness to what I am liking. I feel like a dork because I want to make a special trip to the store to buy yarn to make dish cloths. What size hook do you use? I want to make sure it is tight enough that forks aren't jabbing through. I need to buy a new smaller hook. Jeepers, I care too much about my dish cloths. Lol.
H is my default in crochet. But I also know that I crochet REALLY tightly.
Side note: I've made different styles of dishcloths. The shells and other patterns turn out beautiful, but I've found I like a plain old row after row of sc or hdc square (or whatever shape) best. Because I'm less afraid of jabbing myself with a fork with them.
I tend to go tight too. I think I have only ever had two hooks, and I can only find the one which is a K. I did sc for the one I finished and the one am working on. The fork thing is part of my decision making too.

I managed to get page one of DDs quiet book finished. I'm pretty pleased with it.
I got distracted from knitting my blanket because I decided to over come 2nd sock syndrome and finish the 2nd sock of the one I've already done. Otherwise winter will arrive and I'll have one sock to wear!
Finished the layout of my HST quilt. Will leave it up on the design wall for a few days to see if it still 'feels' right before I start sewing.
GTKY: We don't celebrate Valentine's Day at all. My thoughts are that I don't need a special day to show how much I love my husband and it's all commercial. We might say 'Happy Valentines Day' but that would be it.

What are you making? I'm working on my Harry Potter crocheted dress series, still.
Are you happy with your progress? Nope. The Ravenclaw dress is a pain in the arse.
Don't forget pictures if you have them! None this time 'cause I keep unraveling it.
GTKY: What are your valentine's day plans? Do you buy/make gifts for your DH and/or kids? If so, what are you giving them? I made reservations to a japanese steakhouse. Dh has never been before so I'm excited.
Last week I cut out pattern pieces and fabric for a dress for DD and the trial run of the hooded shirt for DS:
Hoping to get the dress done in the next 2 days. I'm trying to make a fabric flower for the first time and it's going pretty well. Might be one of those "don't look too closely at it" types of things. I plan on putting it on the sash of the dress:
DD and I also made her valentine box and cards for her preschool class:
I'm very proud that she was all into this and wanted to do all the decorating and even cut out the hearts. Maybe I have a future crafter??
GTKY: We'll probably stick around home for valentines day and I'll make a dinner. I plan on giving the kids a book for a gift, a tradition I've been doing.
What are you making? My WIP this week is preparing for a large comic convention that I just signed up for today, and is next weekend!!! AAAHHH! If you are coming to Wizard World Cleveland stop by and say hi Are you happy with your progress? No. It's going to be a crazy week of prep. Don't forget pictures if you have them! Here are a few pics from the last con we had a table at - Grand Rapids in November. Baby girl was a great table helper.
GTKY: What are your valentine's day plans? Do you buy/make gifts for your DH and/or kids? If so, what are you giving them? DH is in charge. We don't do much, but this year I think we are making heart shaped pizzas.
cmeon - Which dress/tunic did you make? I want to see a pic!
It was the tunic on the 1st page of 6/14- #19, the version with the ruffles in the seams. Really a quick sew- I had enough cones of that color thread to keep both my serger and coverstitch machine full, so that certainly sped it up. I made 110, even though she's not quite into that size, so it probably qualifies as a dress for now.
I got #16 from this one (1/15) done today- I just did the non-log cabin one, and so far skipped the pockets (though, I may add them if she wants them- she doesn't always like pockets these days). She needed a pretty plain red tunic/dress to go with some fabulous sparkly rainbow leg warmers she picked out at Target (she's my girl).

I'm a day late!
What are you making? I am working on an Antler sweater for LO. I forgot how much I love HiKoo yarn. I also whipped up a quick bookmark valentine for my students and sewed a simple circle skirt for DD. I am in the beginning stages of Project Burp Cloth and Bib for a baby shower gift. Are you happy with your progress? Yes! I started the sweater just this week and have a sleeve and a half. Pretty good headway considering! The skirt was a one day project and is a hit. She's worn it twice. I think I could have done better on the bookmarks, but I couldn't find my hole punch. The kids won't care that they are a little plain. I did round all the corners!
No pictures. Haven't uploaded to my computer recently.
GTKY: What are your valentine's day plans? Do you buy/make gifts for your DH and/or kids? If so, what are you giving them? We are going to have fondue at home. We do a special treat for everyone and a valentine card. I'm going to get DD a mylar balloon, she is smitten over them.
