I think I'm in the right place. (oh gosh this got long - sorry!)
I haven't posted on this board in a very long time. My daughter was born in Aug 2013 and was a 32 weeker. She was in the hospital 25 days and then we came home and were on self-quarantine. RSV season was about to start and I wasn't about to let her get sick (if I could help it).
When she turned a year old we didn't see our regular pediatrician (she was on maternity leave) and of course they start on all the development milestones. We were also 2 months behind, right on her adjusted age. Well, she gets to food and I say we're still on bottles and purees. "what?! She should be eating what you're eating!" Huh, so I go buy stage 3 baby food which has texture and she starts gagging and throwing up!
She also has Laryngomalacia, so I assumed she was gagging because of that. Her ENT said no way and suggested a swallow study. So we got the pediatrician's approval and we learned that (at the time) when the texture of yogurt hit the back of her mouth she gagged and threw up. So we started our long journey of Speech Therapy. My daughter was diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder and Oral Aversion. She just turned 3, so our Early Intervention has ended and our school system doesn't cover feeding. We were discharged from OT because she's doing better with touching different textures. She's still not chewing though, so it's a lot of mac n cheese, yogurt, mashed potatoes, etc.
So here we are! My little 3 year old still wears 18m-2T clothes and is itty bitty, but full of energy!
