We got DD1's tongue tie fixed at 9 months old. She got a new pediatrician, and he thought it merited evaluation by an ENT, who recommended it. I believe it improved her BFing (I never thought she had a bad latch before then). And now she can now stick out her tongue at us, so there's that.

Yes, Emma had a tongue tie and two lip ties. We had it snipped by scissors by an ENT at Georgetown. He specializes in it and it was going to be numbed which lasering doesn't tend to be. I do think she has a posterior one that should have been done as her tongue is still forked but by the time I noticed it we had given up on nursing. She was originally done around 2-3 months. She had a weak suck and couldn't transfer milk.
I did get a ped dentist's opinion but didn't go that directly. No on thought her's was very bad, and kind of poo'd poo'd it except for my lactation consultant and then the ENT.
Myself, my twin brother and my sister all had/have ties. Mine was cut a few years ago when I had gum restoration surgery. We all had speech impediments and dental issues that needed braces (also sucked thumbs/fingers). We all had gaps between our top two teeth from the lip ties.

Seriously it can affect reflux? I never knew that! C has an upper lip and we didn't do anything about it. Poor girl was refluxing sooooo badly this morning.
DS has a front tongue tie. We were told if there was no latch issue, that we can take him to an ENT when he is one and they can do it. My friend's husband is an ENT and said they don't like doing them before they are 1 if there are no feeding issues. DH had one when he was born and they cut it in the hospital. He ended up with a tongue thrust because they cut to much. We'll have him seen in December and go from there.

I feel dumb but can someone explain what a tongue and/or lip tie is? My DS won't stick his tongue out and I'm wondering if that's the problem but have no idea what I'm looking for.

When DS lifts up his tongue, a good portion of the tip is connected to the bottom of his mouth.
