We're not planning to do anything big for either. I'm putting a pile of things that I've picked up in 12M and 18M sizes (currently in 6M) that I'll wrap to go under the tree. I have a package of mega blocks and a xylophone toy that will be for one or the other. H and I have a Thule child bike seat on our Christmas list...which might mean we'll get LO a helmet. I have an automatic car starter on my list.

For birthday, we're getting her a Vtech farm, board books, and special earrings.
For Christmas, we're getting her a princess tent/tunnel, a baby doll, some puzzles, and Santa will bring her a Rock and Ride. Maybe some clothes if she's needing anything or I see something I can't walk away from.

We've already bought the Power Wheels Minnie Mouse Ride on Quad for her birthday thanks to a sale and a groupon coupon for TRU.
I have an Amazon list that consists of a Sweet Seat chair, Little Tikes Cruiser, Vtech learning book, some bath toys, and some clothes. I think there are a few other things I'm forgetting but that's the gist.
I've gotten her a Tommy duck pull toy... hoping I can hold out until her birthday to give it to her... thinking a snowsuit and maybe another outfit and book for her bday. No idea about Christmas.
I plan to buy a gift that DS and DD can play with together like a kitchen or outdoor toddler playscape for Christmas. We will likely deposit $ in her 529 acct for her birthday. Both sets of grandparents and uncle are visiting for Christmas/NY/DD birthday so I'm sure there will be plenty of gifts.
Since her birthday is so early (mid November) we really don't have to worry about competing presents.
I have a blow up ball pit for her birthday already. For Christmas we want to get her one of those starter Red Rider tricycles. Not sure what else for either. Probably clothes and books.

I have no idea for Christmas. Probably some sort of ride on/push toy. A book or two and probably some PJs. We won't di anything major though since he is so little.
Does anyone have experience with Highlights magazine, more specifically Highlight Hello (up to 2 yrs) and High Five (2 to 6 yrs)? I'm comtemplating High Five for my 3 yr old, but 2-6 years is a large age range in terms of ability so I'm not sure. I don't want to purchase something that we won't use. Highlights Hello may be something worth looking into for those of you without baby books.

YES! Love. Clara's Grand-nana got her a subscription to Hello when she was a year old. She gets High Five now. Now that she is 3 she has definitely grown into them. She loves them. High quality. Activities and recipes to try too. She is awesome at the find the hidden item pictures. The Hello books are being reused for Margs.
ETA right at age 2, some of the hidden pictures were a little lost on her, but she is getting more interested in letters and thejokes so she get's the "that's silly" pictures.

No, but from highlights is Babybug . One of the Grandmas sends that for DS and he enjoys it (he is 2 and has been getting it for 1+ yrs). It will be nice to keep them for layer down the road when he starts reading too.
Nice gift for someone else to give if someone needs an idea.
I haven't heard of babybug but I'll check it out. Thanks!

We get High Five for my nephew (just turned 4). He loves it!

We love both. The Hello magazine is great and indestructible. My 2.5 year old loves flipping through them on his own, but he is getting a little old for them. The baby like to shake them around and she can put them in her mouth and I don't have to worry about ruining books. Which we have done a lot of in the past.
The High Five is great, too. At 3, a lot of it was lost on my oldest, but as she's grown up she really enjoys it and we read it cover to cover together when it comes in the mail. She is 4 now.
I think it's hard to make a magazine to bridge so many age groups. They change and learn so fast! Highlights has done a great job though!
