My older daughter has decided she wants to go back to sleeping in her own room instead of sharing with the baby. It's so bittersweet. They were super cute sharing a room together. But DD1 is definitely growing up and wanting more independence lately. I can't believe she'll be 5 in a couple months.

5 is ridiculous. I could handle 4, but now omg, I can't believe kindergarten is next year!

My attempt at nursing on public today was a disaster. I wasn't even planning on him nursing, I nursed before we got there & had him in the wrap, I assumed he'd sleep the whole time as usual but halfway through our Target run he woke up & was hungry. I went to the Starbucks to sit at a table & nurse, I was trying to be discreet & keep in in the wrap, he kept screaming, my boobs were literally spraying everywhere like a firehouse and I'm positive everyone was staring at me. I had to take him out of the wrap completely then realized I couldn't re-tie it & put him in because I had nowhere to set him down so I decided to just pay for what I had & leave.
In the checkout line the lady behind me commented on how cute he was and he immediately spit up all over me. I was ready to cry at that point.

icaughtfire oh no!! When DS1 was little I was so nervous to NIP that I would sweat profusely when trying to do it (and it was during the polar vortex in January)!
I actually had to practice. I would go to the mall for no reason other than to sit in the middle of the food court and practice nursing him with people around. It helped me to just pretend I wasn't dying inside and that I was confident even though I was mortified. Eventually it got easier, the more I did it! It sounds so silly, but can you go places to practice?
katelou - kinder starts at 6 for you guys? This seems so late to me! I've had 3 year olds in my kinder classes here!
Ooh we must have different words for it. Here, kindergarten is the year before 1st grade. They start the fall they are 5, so my DD will be 5 in May and will start kindergarten in the fall. It's 5 days a week and usually full day. A few places still have half day K but it's rare nowadays.
Anything before kindergarten is called preschool or prekindergarten and is different everywhere in terms of how it is offered, how many days per week and hours per day. In public schools, there are usually 2 years of preschool offered before kindergarten, so starting the fall they are 3. My state does not fund universal preschool so public preschool actually costs as much as private preschool. Other states offer free preschool for 1-2 years. Because public preschool is not free here, there are a ton of private options, some state as early as 2. Some parents sends their kids as little as 2 days a week for 3 hours, some do 5 days a week all day. Families with 2 working parents often do daycare with a preschool curriculum until kindergarten starts. My DD started preschool at a catholic school at 3 and goes MWF for the full school day. A few people don't send their kids to any type of preschool.
Yup. What katelou said re: kindergarten. My friends in Ontario started kindergarten this year with their 4 year old. But here in Pennsylvania they have to be 5 by September 8th for kindergarten. Anything before that is prekindergarten or preschool. DD1 turns 5 in January. She's in prekindergarten 3 right now and will start kindergarten in the fall when she's 5.5.
