misspatty Agreed. Trump is a piece shit, but Pence would actually do everything within his power as President to make anyone not white, Christian, and male a second class citizen. He fucked Indiana over hard. He's as scary as Ted Cruz to me.
He is Ted Cruz without the intellect. But I don't think Trump will withdraw and anything else would be a disaster. I'm pretty confident they are stuck with Trump but fingers crossed America WONT be.
As outraged as I am, I am actually somewhat terrified that this could cause him to actually withdraw. Take it from me as someone who lives in his state, Pence would be a lateral move from Trump and I think he could beat Hillary because people don't know about the deplorable things he's done. The thought of Pence in charge of Supreme Court seats makes me want to throw up. He is actually significantly more conservative than Trump and I would put money on the fact that he would make repealing Roe V. Wade a central goal to a presidency.
Fuck Trump. Fuck all of this. I just want this damn election to be over. I can't stop spiraling. I just want Hillary to win and this nightmare to be over.
Is there any precedent or is that how it works if he withdraws? The VP candidate becomes the nominee? That just seems so odd given that it's not even someone who was initially running.
It's state by state, but since deadlines have passed and voting has actually started in many states, they can't change the names on the ballot.
Since we vote for electors pledged to a candidate, rather than directly for the president, it is possible that the electors could pull some shady shit if Trump is elected. Unlikely, though.
The problem with Trump dropping out is that it is probably too late to take his name off the ballot in most states. Some votes have already been cast and military/absentee ballots mailed. And it is probably a loser for the Republican ticket anyway. There is a reason he won the Republican nomination, a significant number of his supporters probably would refuse to support a replacement. There was a reason this strategy failed leading up to the convention. The party poohbahs felt he was their best shot at a victory, however unlikely. And so they ignored what everyone with open eyes could see because winning was more important. Now that it appears he will go down in flames, they are running away.
ETA:
But if Trump withdraws, and in fact even if he doesn’t, there is one other possible way out: the Electoral College....The reason this is such a Hail Mary is because it depends on a huge number of unlikely contingencies: Trump withdraws, or the Republican leadership abandons him yet still get voters to choose Trump on the ballot; the “Trump” campaign gets more Electoral College votes than the Clinton campaign (requiring a lot of thinking and effort on the part of battered voters); electors chosen by the Trump campaign to serve the Republican ticket (some of whom love Donald Trump) would act faithlessly and vote for Pence or someone else; and Republicans control the Senate. All of this is possible but not bloody likely.
That’s why the more plausible scenario is the following: After Sunday’s debate, when Trump does not do well, more members of the Republican leadership start withdrawing their endorsements. Watch Paul Ryan move before Mitch McConnell, because Ryan has presidential aspirations of his own. Trump is essentially left twisting in the wind. The big message from Republicans is to vote for Republicans in the U.S. Senate to block Hillary Clinton from getting her agenda passed. More money from the Koch brothers, Sheldon Adelson, and other plutocrats floods into the Senate races, which right now are very close on the question of control. And the more that Republican Senate candidates can distance themselves from Trump, the more likely it is that swing voters split their tickets and vote for the Republican Senate candidate.
The end game now is about denying Clinton control of the Senate, and with that comes loss of a free hand to choose a Supreme Court nominee (because if Democrats take even one seat of control, I expect they will nuke the filibuster to put in whomever they want for the Supreme Court). As I argued a year ago, the Supreme Court is the most important civil rights issue of our time: “It is more important than racial justice, marriage equality, voting rights, money in politics, abortion rights, gun rights, or managing climate change. It matters more because the ability to move forward in these other civil rights struggles depends first and foremost upon control of the Court. And control for the next generation is about to be up for grabs, likely in the next presidential election, a point many on the right but few on the left seem to have recognized.”
Yet what was notable about Access Hollywood’s coverage is how much of Billy Bush’s role in the conversation it left out from the tape it put on air. The video broadcast by Access Hollywood leaves out a few choice statements by Bush, including when he says, “Sheesh, your girl’s hot as shit — in the purple. Yes! The Donald has scored. Whoa, my man!” in a description of the actress Trump was about to meet. Plus, Access Hollywood attributes a part of the conversation to Trump that the Post said was “another voice, apparently Bush’s.”
Although Access Hollywood had the tape, it didn’t plan to air it before the debate, according to CNN, which says the earliest it could have aired was Monday night. NBC sources tell CNN they think it was someone at NBC who leaked the video to the Post.
Over the last couple hours, Trump's supporters are coming back into view. They reportedly heckled Paul Ryan at the event in Wisconsin where he was originally supposed to have shared the stage with Trump. The same apparently happened in Nevada with senate candidate Joe Heck. Joe Ralston says Heck was booed a short time ago as he told a crowd that Trump should step down... The institutional GOP resisted Trump mightily. But he won anyway because he has a massive amount of support among the most engaged Republican voters. The last 24 hours has probably lost him significant support in the race against Hillary Clinton. Perhaps he's fallen from the low 40s to the very high 30s. Just a guess. But in the context of intra-Republican politics that leaves him with massive levels of support intact. This is a pivot establishment Republicans tried to pull off at numerous points on the road to October. They were never able to do so. Indeed, realizing the scope of the challenge they essentially never tried. Despite the news of the last 24 hours, there's little reason to believe they'll be successful now. And by 'successful' I mean leading a party abandonment of Trump as opposed to ripping open a massive hemorrhage in the party just weeks before the election.
He started a fire in our fire pit and DH went out. I told him to ask, as the father of daughters, how do he feel about Trump's latest comments. DH was all "shhh he's on our property, he might hear you." My response was, "right, he's on OUR property, and I don't care if he hears me."
The Republicans blew their chance to stack the court by nominating this sack of shit. Too bad, so sad! But really, a conservative Supreme Court is not worth the damage the election of this disgusting FRAUD would cause.
ETA: he also said today that he thought the Central Park Five were guilty. They were exonerated by DNA! Asshole!
He thought the Central Park 5 were guilty back then (1989). He put full page ads in all the NYC papers trying to get the city to push for the death penalty. NY state found the death penalty unconstitutional in 1984. Not only were they exonerated by DNA but another serial rapist confessed to the crime! AND his DNA matched!!! Trump is delusional and can't say he did/said something wrong.

He just walks over and starts a fire in your fire pit? Like without talking to you guys first?
If you have spent your career brutalizing and dehumanizing women legislatively rather than personally, you are no better. If you were happy to overlook months of violent racism, xenophobia, transphobia and Islamophobia from the Trump campaign, but now you’re mad that he used a bad word and tried to sleep with another man’s wife, you are no better. If you have derided and stigmatized identity politics in an effort to keep the marginalized from organizing, you are no better. If you snicker or say nothing while your fellow men behave like Donald Trump, you are no better.

So I have legit anxiety for Hillary going into the debate. Trump is going to just drag them through the mud with some vicious personal shit.
I fucking hate that she has to stand up there and just absorb Trump's deflection of his own vileness by pointing fingers at Bill.
Like she already had to live that once and now, in order to get a job she is insanely qualified for, she's going to have to stand on a stage in front of the entire country and listen to this POS talk about her marriage.

Let my chime in and say that Trump was a Democrat back then and now he's changed!
I get excited when I see you've posted in this thread. I just can't wait to see what new crazy shit you've come up with.
This election sure has been strange................................kinda weird that Reps are scared now, when Trump has been saying this kind of stuff all year long......................
I saw that meme on fb this morning from an acquaintance. It sparked a discussion of only one woman saying anything negative about Trump. The worst comment was from a woman saying that it proves that Trump is a "real man" and that there is nothing wrong with men admiring a beautiful woman. I might need to stay away from fb today.
I'm just excited to see what else will be released as the election draws near. There are people sitting on first for years that are ready to release shit and the closer it gets to election I'm wondering if that's when more bombs are going to be dropping.

I would bet money that there's more to come.
As much as I want him to go down in flames, I wish there weren't. It literally is making me sick thinking about him and all the men like him in this world as I sit here with my two young daughters. And this is the person a large percentage of our country, at least at one time, was standing behind, supporting, defending, encouraging to be basically/arguably become the most powerful person in the world. Vomit.
It's the day of the debate! I got some side eye at work on Friday because I told some colleagues that I was more excited about the debate than some baseball games. Apparently the Cubs are doing well or something. I dunno.
I always say I'm more excited about Super Tuesday than the Super Bowl and I get looks.

Pretty sure the apprentice people said they had tapes. CNN released the Howard stern stuff.
