Congrats to your friend britterrss. I haven't heard of that disorder before. Will the baby require surgeries?
Possibly. She already has kidney, heart, and brain issues. The syndrome causes a myriad of health problems. It also causes (sometimes severe) cognitive delays. They won't know the extent of it until she gets older.
Prayers for your friend and baby that they won't have to do anything too serious and invasive. You said in your previous post that they've been really positive. I once worked with a baby with a rare syndrome and when I first met the mom she told me she hadn't googled or really looked it up because she didn't want to have something tell her what her child would be like. She wanted him to just be her son and his own person and show them what he was capable of. It was really cool and they were just the best. Obviously it's nice to be informed on what medical obstacles they can face with the diagnosis, but to have that outlook makes a big difference.
My friend just had her first baby today and she was born with Cri du Chat (very debilitating genetic disorder). They've known about complications since 20 something weeks and have been really positive and prepared. I still just feel so bad for her.
We have a cri du chat baby on J13. Want me to see if her Mom would be willing to chat?

Hmmm. I would but I guess I don't want to overwhelm her right now. I may reach out at a later time though. Thanks!
