Happy Thanksgiving to our friends in Canada! I hope you're enjoying it.
Whether you celebrate today or next month, what do you do on Thanksgiving? Where is dinner? What do you make? What's your favorite dish or dishes? What are your traditions?
We either do it at our place or at my mom and dad's since I'm technically an only child and DHs parents live in BC. No real traditions really. I try to make a craft with the kids each year to put on the table but it doesn't always happen.
I think I've realized that turkey makes F really gassy for some reason so this year we did turkey and ham so I could still eat meat lol

We go to the cottage every Thanksgiving and close it up for the season. My MIL makes a turkey at home and brings it up to heat up for dinner Saturday. It's super casual, we eat on the couch in the living room.

We would usually drive back home to Illinois spend Thanksgiving at the ILs having a very bland dinner with dry turkey. Then we would do Thanksgiving at my parents house on Friday or Saturday. There is usually a fire outside and plenty of food and alcohol for everyone.
This year we won't be going anywhere so my family is coming to us. Everyone will stay with us and we will have Thanksgiving here. The ILs do not know that my family is coming here. They just think we will be alone.
Both our families are local, but despite attempts to have H's family celebrate with mine they don't like it. So we have to pick one family and go there for dinner. H's family is very antisocial and awkward so they don't like to go to "big" holidays.
When we had DS1 I put my foot down and refused to go to two holidays in one day/weekend. This really ruffled my MIL and she still tries to wrangle us to come to her house if we say we have plans.

We make it to both the in laws and my family's at least over the course of Thanksgiving weekend. Sweet potatoes and apples are my favorite thing that make. Not to many thanksgiving traditions I usually watch the Macy's parade.

Where in Illinois? I was born in southern Illinois, grew up in central IL, moved to Chicago and now live in the burbs.

My husband was raised by his grandparents and they've always hosted. The past few years, it's been too much on grandma who's in her eighties but she's very proud and easily offended so I didn't want her to think I was taking over. This year I sucked it up and offered to host and she accepted thankfully. It's only us and the grandparents now that BIL/SIL moved put of state.
I want to make something delicious, not too complicated, and crowd pleasing but I'm tired of years of mushy casseroles. They might hate me if I make roasted Brussels spouts and squash instead of casseroles.
DH's family lives out of the country so we always do thanksgiving with my parents and siblings. It's pretty traditional with the turkey, mashed potatoes, the whole deal.

Every other year we have it at our house with his mom. Eat by noon and snack on it the rest of the day! (Turkey, rolls, mash potatoes, gravy, stuffing, cranberry orange relish, corn. Pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and whip cream.)
His parents house they usually buy dessert. I just don't like store bought pumpkin or pecan pies. They eat around 6ish and everything is usually cold. :/
I'm sure next year we will receive a guilt trip by doing it at our house since SMIL is obsessed with W.
Since we got married almost 6 years ago we have it at our house. Anyone is welcome and it's up to family to decide if they want to come or not lol. We smoke a turkey, sourdough mushroom dressing, green bean bundles, homemade mashed potatoes, macaroni pie, and bourbon pecan pie. We have made it our own tradition and I love it. I can't cook M-F, but holiday meals I rock it!
