Toddler and Preschooler Check-in (10/18)

Oh hey, I go here now...

Age: 1 yr

Milestones: walking and talking machine. Well not really, but YKWIM

Challenges: he had a terrible night of sleep last night, which is so out of the ordinary for him. I'm thinking teeth (it's been several months since any popped through)

Funny/cute stories: DH and I were watching a movie on Sunday, and DS found the button that turns the whole system off. I told him no, but he pushed it anyway. Then turned around w/ the most mischievous look on his face. I jumped up to grab him, repeatedly saying "no, we don't push that." Meanwhile, DH was laughing hysterically. Doubt DS learned any lessons, but the look was damn cute.

How are you? Just got through one of the worst deadlines I've ever been through in my career. Just happy to be sleeping until a "normal" hour, seeing my kid for more than 15 mins each day, and not working 12 hour days

QOTW: Best is most of the chocolate bars. Worst is those chewy ones that take forever to dissolve.

Two new kids this week! Happy birthdays, little ones!

@enchanted , I hope the biting stops soon. I remember my boobs turning into chew toys - NO FUN!

And Smootiepie , I'm glad you survived the deadline and can spend more time at home. You aren't a tax preparer/accountant by any chance? (::: whispers ::: I am!)

Age: 3.5

Milestones: She's getting really good at writing her letters and numbers. I can see the impact the (limited) homework she does during the week is having. It blows me away to watch her write!

Challenges: The tantrums this week were pretty stellar. I think she's going through a growth spurt or something because this chick has been sleeping later in the morning and getting cranky earlier at night. Pretty frustrating for all of us.

Funny/cute stories: I wore a multi-tiered necklace today with beads on it, and she was mesmerized. When I tried to hug her goodbye, she hugged my necklace instead and whispered, "I love you, Necklace. Oh, I love you, too, Mommy. But I'm gonna ask Santa for that necklace for Christmas." Okay, J, okay LOL And she says necklace like neck-ah-lace

How are you? Pretty well now that tax season is officially over (the individual filing extension deadline was yesterday)! Yay! Not so well on a few other fronts, but that's okay. It'll all work out.

Anything else? MH and I get a kid-free weekend this weekend for our anniversary. And I found out my parents' neighbors are giving us a really nice Amish-made collapsible wooden swing set for free! We may keep it for J's birthday in May. I'm afraid if we give it to her for Christmas I'll spend a lot of time out in the freezing cold/snow with her swinging LOL

QOTW: Best - it's a toss up between mini chocolate bars (Snickers, Reese's, Milky Ways) or Starbursts (I love them). Worst - hard candy. Get that cracked, tongue-cutting stuff outta here.

Age: 2.2

Milestones: He's putting on his own shoes and shirt now (with just a little help on the shirt).

Challenges: He didn't do very well with our most recent babysitter, so I am still on the hunt for babysitters who gel well with him.

Funny/cute stories: I was dancing to the radio while cooking dinner and he shouted, "No! Mama! Dinner!" I nearly died. (I kept dancing, of course.)

A few days later, he held out his hands and "asked" me to dance along with the radio.

How are you? Good. I had my first fancy salon appointment in 6+ years today and had the stylist chop off 5 inches. I love it!! I feel like a new woman.

Anything else? DH is traveling this week and will be gone all next week, and I am feeling a little bummed about that.

QOTW: Best Halloween candy? Worst? Best: Milky Way Dark; Worst: Hard candy (I really don't like hard candy other than butterscotch)

Age: 20.5 months

Milestones: B is able to undress herself now (diaper included)

Challenges: See above. Keeping clothing on this child is a drain.

Funny/cute stories: DD1 is going through the repeater phase right now. Everything we say can and will get repeated. When I took her out of the car today and she had taken her boots and socks off I told her "oh goodness child". She looked up at me giggled and said "oh nooness chile". I almost died!

How are you? I posted in the infant check in but I'm having a bit of an identity crisis right now. Somehow I managed to avoid questioning myself with one child but now having two I find myself questioning who I am as a person anymore.

Anything else? I really struggle somedays with trying all of the challenges that come with trying to raise two kids, but I still love this and am feeling so much that I don't want out of this crazy pull your hair out phase of an infant and a toddler.

QOTW: I discovered Reese pumpkins today-it's at the top of my list now! I have to agree with @enchanted that candy corn is the worst candy ever.

Sorry to read about your identity crisis, taberbtb. I went through one after J. It took a little while for me to feel like 'me' again. One thing that helped me was getting some alone time here and there. Whether it was a trip to the gym by myself, a little walk around the block, reading a chapter or two of a book in bed with the door closed... hell, even putting on my makeup in the morning without interruption! I needed to get some me time. I hope you're able to find something that helps jump-start you, too.
