Sorry if it's a little long! Tl:dr we had some hiccups before we went to the hospital for a planned csection but the csection went great. LO spent a night in NICU for some desaturations with eating but we were all discharged 2 days later happy as can be.
My csection was scheduled for 10:00 Thursday morning so we were told to arrive at 8:30. I went to bed at 11 in hopes of getting a little sleep before the procedure but was awakened by the smoke detector. Our dryer had basically caught on fire and was pouring smoke into our lower level. Once that was dealt with DH and i tried to get some sleep.
I got up the next morning and got ready. We left to drop the dogs off early at MILs but we discovered right away we had a flat tire and had to run back to the house to fill it. We finally got on the road, dropped the dogs off and got to the hospital in time to kiss my parents and get to preop.
In preop they got me ready and I met with the surgical team and anesthesia. We were delayed by about 20 min but soon they were whisking me off to the OR while DH got into his surgical gear. The got me on the OR table and inserted the spinal. Luckily that went in smoothly. Then I was laid down, catheter inserted and I was draped and prepped for surgery.
The put on classical music- DHs choice and he was brought in to sit with me. I only got slightly nauseous but otherwise had no side effects from the spinal. The anesthesiologist took DHs phone and recorded the birth for us which is so amazing to have.
Parke.r Sta.nley was born screaming at 11:06am on Thursday 10/20. They delayed cord clamping for 2 minutes per our request and they cut a longer cord so DH could trim it and effectively "cut the cord." He was quite purple when he came out but his apgar scores were good. They brought him over to see us and then cleaned him up and weighed him. He was 9lbs5oz and 20.5 inches- smaller than we had anticipated but still a big boy for 39weeks on the nose.
He was placed on my chest and we did skin to skin for a couple minutes. He turned purple again and the nurse took him to the isolate and called peds emergently. His sats came back up with some blow by oxygen and peds told me that it's common for csection babies to have some extra fluid in their lungs and they would just keep an eye on him. He was given back to DH to hold for the remainder of the surgery. We were wheeled together into recovery and they immediately put him to my breast. He desatted again another 2 times at the breast and peds made the call to move him to the newborn stabilization room (NEST). DH went with him and I stayed in recovery and tried to pump. DH came back several times to update me and sent me pictures. Once my 3 hours was up the nurse said I could go by the NEST to see and feed him so they got me up into a wheelchair and took me to see my son. We fed once without problem and then I went to my room to rest for a couple hours. I went back to the NEST at around 5. to feed Parke.r and he desatted once more, however not as bad as the previous times. Peds made the call to move him to the NICU for the night to be observed.
Par.ker did super well in NICU and was discharged to us the next morning. He was circumcised Friday night and then we were discharged Saturday mid day! My recovery has been pretty smooth and I've been able to get around very easily with minimal pain. DH has been an amazingly awesome daddy and husband and he does so much for us both already. I couldn't love these two men any more if I tried. I'm sleep deprived but blissfully happy and I couldn't have asked for a better experience (well maybe not the nicu stuff lol) and a more perfect baby.
