So I dropp my kid at school and went to the store to do all my grocery shopping. I got to checkout and realized I left my wallet in the f-ing diaper bag when I went to the park yesterday.
Please share how you handle the purse/diaper bag thing- switch your wallet/phone/keys back and forth? Haul both bags? Live out of diaper bag?
katelou, I had been living out of the diaper bag. Now that I'm going into the office sometimes, things are a bit of a disaster because I now leave the house with the diaper bag, my computer bag, and my pump bag. It took me half an hour to find my keys yesterday (they were in the pump bag).
With my 1st kid and working, I also has a problem forgetting to switch my wallet etc back and forth. So I just abandoned the diaper bag pretty quickly and kept diaper, wipes and a light blanket in my purse and that was fine 95% of the time. When she got older I'd throw in a soppy, jar of baby food, whatever. But now that I have 2 kids I need more stuff, like snacks and a water bottle for Dd1.
My daycare doesn't have a place to leave supplies, so I leave a very loaded diaper bag with them every time I drop him off. I see now why other daycares made a big deal about each kid having a drawer...
I'm not back at work yet so I've just been using the diaper bag (really a backpack) everywhere. When I go back to work I plan to leave a diaper bag in the car. I will just put my wallet in my pump bag. I'm also going to have a therapy bag with materials for my sessions. And then lunch bag and cooler. So I'm just going to be a bag lady and leave everything in the car for the most part.
Even though she was up at least 5 or 6 times last night my heart is full thinking of this girl today. Last year at this time I had the most full bladder I have ever had in my life and was getting my little snowflake transferred. And today she is here with us and 3.5 months old. I'll have to post an ultimate FBF photo when I get home and can do a comparison shot (currently siting in car at BJs parking lot waiting for her to wake up to do grocery shopping). Coffee and FB while I wait.
With DD I just got a more purse like diaper bag and mostly carried that - I was rarely without her. Now I have a wristlet that fits easily into the diaper bag so if I'm out without the kids, I just take that, clip my keys to the handle, my phone fits inside.

Ohh I remember what that was like! I had 4 bags when working (purse, pump, bag of BM bottles, and my lunch) and i had such a hard time remembering everything that I taped a checklist to my door and it stayed there til I stopped pumping. Being a WM is a totally different animal of bag logistics.
After we switched to a convertible car seat (so it took 2 hands to buckle her in, rather than 1 hand to snap the bucketseat) I locked my kid and my keys in the car twice because I had to set the keys down to get her in. One of those times, I had locked the house (no garage) and my husband was in Singapore. I had to call the police to have them break into my car and rescue my kid. It was so embarrassing. After that I bought a bracelet keychain and wore my keys around my wrist while getting her in the car.
My diaper bag stays in the car for the most part. I have a change of clothes for both kids in ziplock bags in the diaper bag. I keep one diaper and a small sleeve of wipes in my purse in case i need to change B when we are out.
Keys, wallet and such stay in my purse at all times. I really don't take the diaper bag out of the car.

I hate diaper bags with a passion and this is one reason. By a few weeks, I'm back to my big purse. I pack a small wet bag with diapers, wipes, and a onesie and toss it in my purse. For day trips I'll pack the diaper bag or my H's ancient Jansport. Ithe works because I SAH, DD is fully potty trained, and I only breastfeed, so my packing needs are the least possible.

katelou I also locked DD in the car once. She was having a tantrum and somehow knocked the keys from my hand and hit the lock button as I fought her into the seat (18 months or so) It was at the grocery store. She tantrumed the whole time the cops broke in. DH was an hour away. It was the worst.

Oh man glad I'm not the only one but that must have sucked. Our experience wasnt so bad, she was about 14 months and completely not upset as long as she could see me. Now, the other time I did it and it was pitch dark at 6:30 am and -4 degrees out and I had to leave her in the car screaming while I frantically searched for the spare keys in the house... that was a different story.
I just use my diaper bag as my purse, unless H and I are going out just the two of us (hahahahaha that NEVER happens). Even when I go somewhere by myself I still take it, just because I'm too lazy to transfer my things into a purse.
Sam nursed 4 times last night/this morning before my alarm went off for work. He didn't really fall asleep after the last time and was really upset, so I nursed him again and H took him upstairs to see if he might go back to sleep...they are still up there sleeping two hours later, and it's 9:15 MUST BE NICE.
I like to live dangerously and usually forget to bring the diaper bag places with me. I dont know how that happens, but it does.
Last spring I made an effort to consolidate bags so that I was less bag lady like. I have one huge LLBean tote bag that I put my purse and lunch bag and other miscellaneous work stuff in, then a smaller tote with my pump and cooler. On days when I have tons of shit to take to daycare, my H will load my car up with all of my bags because in addition to those bags, I also add in a bag with sheets and blankets for the kids, plus a small tote with A's bottles.

Ours was the one day in a cold snap. I know I was blathering on and on to the cops but it was actually really fast. Our suburb is small and they were there and broke her out in about 5 minutes. It was the same cop who had sat with me a few weeks before waiting for a tow truck when my wheel broke, so he teased me about being a menace. On the other hand, my husband was so upset and couldn't believe I'd done that. He tends to get mad when he freaks out. That sucked.

I am a bag lady. I embrace it. I always have a purse and a diaper bag on weekends. pump bag bottle bags and wetbags for the daycare as well as my lunch box during the week.
My diaper bag is a ziplock with a couple diapers and a pack of wipes thrown in my car. Theres a pair of emergency pantries for DD1 in the glovebox. Prepared, party of one.

This is exactly what I do. I'm a therapist as well.

I keep my wallet locked up in my glove compartment in my car. I really only ever need it when I am driving my car, so that's where it stays.
I still end up with a diaper bag, book bag for my laptop, and a bag for bottles but that's it. I keep my pump in a locked drawer at work because I have a spare at home from back in the day with L.
It's been one of those days at work where I know I have been working all day but I feel like I have gotten nothing done. I am ready for the weekend.
Luckily we have keyless entry so we can't lock our keys in the car.
Only time I switch diaper bags is when we leave W with the grandparents. Then my very small purse I wear otherwise it's in our backpack diaper bag.
DH took the day off. W had a good appointment! No therapy for his neck! But we will be doing a helmet for him. If insurance won't cover it, it will be $1000 OOP. Either way we will do it because I wouldn't want a lopsided head. I'm not going to make my son have one.
