The struggle to dress appropriately is real today

It took an hour and a half to get DS to put on pants this morning instead of shorts. I don't know what to do when school starts again after Thanksgiving break.

How old is he again?

At around 4 I started blaming clothing choices on the weatherman. "Sorry, the weather man says you have to wear pants today." Rules that come from people that aren't me always go over better here. But, DS is a rule boy.

As soon as he could read, I set up official weather rules and posted them on his wall. His job is to check the weather every morning and then consult his clothing correlation chart and choose appropriately.

He's 4. That's a good idea. I might try to find some type of kid's weather app that he can check on his own. He likes being in charge of things and bribing him with candy hasn't been working.

Rules here.

We created a rubric by which pants length and jackets were dictated. Some local weather stations still do the "how to dress the kids" feather with a morning report.

Mine always ran hot, but didn't like the feeling or a breeze on exposed skin. WE had more tugging on sleeves than insistence on shorts.

Once the weather changes, we have to literally hide the out of season clothing to prevent battles. I know that's not exactly developmental, but he never notices and doesn't ask!

I've had to hide all the shorts too. We pick our clothes out the night before which helps. But then we fought over fall jackets versus winter jackets.

Yeah, we're getting close to hiding the hoodies too...

Packing things up would be a good solution. But fall/winter here fluctuates so much that we might need shorts and short-sleeves in a few weeks.
