I use enfamil newborn and will switch to enfamil infant on Tuesday. But I've wondered this same thing. I feel weird buying store brand formula but I also feel like there prob isn't too much of a difference.
Another trick, which we just started doing, when you buy similac you get enfamil coupons and when you buy enfamil you get similac coupons. They usually range from 4$-6$. If you're ok with changing up formulas, that will save some cash. Also sign up for similac strong mom and the enfamil website and they send their coupons too

We are 50% breastmilk, 50% formula. We use Enfamil Newborn (blue) and have some of the newer Enamel Supplementing (green), too. My ped said it was fine to mix and match formulas as long as baby is amenable to the taste. When she's 3 months, we'll use whatever we have left and move over to Enfamil Infant (yellow). Use whatever is agreeable to your baby. There's no need to move to a certain brand or new formulation unless baby doesn't like what you're offering or it doesn't agree with her system. If something is on sale or priced better, don't be afraid to try it out. There's no harm (except some lost $ if baby doesn't like it).

My ped said any formula was good as long as it is made is in USA. Not just packaged in USA. I guess there was some issue years so where another country was putting plastic in their formula.
You know how they have formula for the infant and ones for 6-12 months, etc.? Ped said they are all the same. Brands just do that to make you buy their product for the long haul. Dirty birds.
Money savings: I bought formula at Walgreen's and they give you three coupons for more formula at check out.

Another for the walgreens. Really over priced but I got 3 emfamil coupons at check out. One for $8 off one large tub. $5 off another large tub. $6 off another.
You can return formula if you've tried it and don't like it. If you decide to try the up+up, there's always a coupon on cartwheel to use on formula.... So that will save you even more.
I cannot wait until LO is 3 months - Doctors here don't recommend powdered formula until 3 months as it isn't sterile. Ready Feed is $50 a case and we go through almost 2 a week. Yet another reason it sucks BF'ing didn't work out.
We started with similac advance but LO was constantly fussy and not pooping so we assumed it was constipation so we switched to the similac partially broken down stuff, lo does great on it! I've often wondered about store brands too but I have a stack of rebate cheques for similac right now so I haven't had to pay full price yet!! I think if I had to I would be switching
We're BF with a 6-8 oz formula supplement/day. Been using Similac, the kind branded for BF supplementing, & LO seems fine on it. Not sure if it is really any different than the regular stuff but it came in one of those free promo boxes so I figured might as well use it before dropping $ on it myself.
We started with Enfamil Newborn (mostly because we had TONS of samples from them). LO has a sensitive stomach so transitioned to the Gentlease. I haven't tried the store brand. Though I'm interested in spending less, I don't want to go back to her tummy troubles if it doesn't react well with her.
