Hello ladies! I haven't been on the last couple days as we adjust to having the baby. But I know we all love birth stories, so here's mine.
TLDR: Benjamin Ray was born February 9 at 8:33 pm, about 12 hours after my water broke.
Full story: as I was walking into work Monday morning, around 8:45am, I felt what I thought was heavy discharge and shrugged it off. As I was getting settled into work, I felt more and more and decided to go to the bathroom. I was wet through my pants. I work about 2 miles from my dr's office so I called to see if they wanted me to come to them before going to L&D. I got in with them at 10:15. The dr did a sterile spec to test for fluid. He didn't see anything and sent me on my way.
As I was walking out of the office, I had the same thing happen with wetting through my pants, so I got put back into an exam room. I sat there for 45 minutes while they forgot about me, whomp whomp. But as I was sitting there, I felt more fluid leak and started having contractions around 11:00. I grabbed the MA and told her what was going on. The OB was going to sterile spec me again, and as I scooted down the table, there was a rush of fluid. He told me that was for sure my water and sent me to L&D. He was not the dr on call, so we went over a couple of my preferences and what I might expect before calling ahead of me.
Through all of this, I told my H to stay at work until I had a definitive answer about what was going on, so I called him to meet me at home. We packed up a few of our last needed things and headed to the hospital.
We got there around 12:30, by then I was already at 4 cm with contractions coming every 3-4 minutes. 3 hours of laboring on the labor ball I decided I needed an epi; the contractions were coming too fast and too strong for me to handle. After getting the epi, I was 6.5 cm. Now they had a hard time finding baby's HB on the external monitor and had to tag him. I also had to have oxygen for a little bit to make sure his levels stayed up.
At 7:00 I was at 10 cm and was told we would start pushing. Not gonna lie, I had a minor panic attack about that. After I pushed a few times, the dr told me my contractions were not coming as frequently and I would be pushing for hours and she would like to give me some pitocin. I pushed for an hour and a half and Benjamin Ray joined us at 5 lbs 6.2 oz, 18 inches long.
The last couple days we have been working on our nursing, which was hindered at first by a tongue tie that has been cut. We're nursing great now. Thank you all for the well wishes.
Now, if you've made it through that, here are some pictures:
