Dock a tot people come in here

have you used the dock a tot & then successfully transitioned out of it? Or will your kid be bringing an extra long one to their college dorm? 
Im tempted to try one even if it is way out of my budget but DH is worried about it being a crutch. I'm looking for any dock a tot anecdotes. 
Mostly looking for a pat on the head that my almost 5 month old will ever want to be out down to sleep again?

Ok. I'm with you in the desperation to sleep and I had no idea what this is so I googled.

Is it safe? The sides are high enough that I'd worry about suffocation (per what I see on google image). I'm not a general worry wart about these things...but the photos of it in a crib with a baby make me cringe a little.

I use it! And I LOVE it! I can't speak to transitioning her out of using it because we are definitely still using it. I think we actually will get the bigger version when she grows out of this one, although I doubt she will be taking it to college with her But no judgement if she does!

I was so desperate and I was bringing her in the bed with us anyway, so I wanted something that made me feel like I could move without squishing her. She was almost 6 months when I got it and I honestly wish I had gotten earlier. It was a splurge for us, but I needed sleep. I'm not going to promise it was a miracle sleep through the night cure, BUT she can now sleep in 4-5hr chunks which feels amazing to me. It's not every night (like last night she was up more, but has a little cold), but it has been a sanity saver.

It is much softer and more breathable then it appears in the pictures (I kind of want to sleep in it), but I was also worried about crib safety. DD is still sleeping in our room in the PNP and we do use it in there for naps. After watching how she sleeps in it I can't say I'm super concerned about suffocation BUT she is not a roller...yet. I haven't used it in her actual crib, but I will for at least naps (when we get around to getting blackout curtains). Now we actually put her in it in the PNP for her first sleep chunk and then move it to the bed in between us for the remainder of the night. I will say that in Europe where they have different sleep guidelines then we do, they use them in cribs regularly and it says that it is safe to do so. I know we aren't Europe, but that gave me some peace of mind.

Also the sides are such that I could roll over and feed her on my side, so that has been really nice too.

Soooo I might be no help, but I bought the Dockatot and ended up not really using it, for a lot of the concerns mentioned above. Let me start out by saying my coworker has a Feb. 16 baby who sleeps in the Dockatot nightly in my coworker's bed. They love it. I bought it at 4 months because of the sleep regression. I was looking for an easy fix. I was desperate. I asked DH to splurge on it and he did. DD slept in it for about a week before I pulled the plug on the experiment without fully giving it a chance. During that week it only mildly improved her sleep (I got 4 hour stretches but DD still got up about 2x a night). I felt very uneasy allowing her to sleep in it primarily because we don't co-sleep. We never have. In fact, DD was already in her crib when I bought the Dockatot and that's where I placed it. (I know, I know, it's not made for the crib). But the same week she started sleeping in it was the week she started rolling. She rolled in the Dockatot a few times to sleep on her belly. She kept sleeping and was obviously just fine (so it's breathable), but I felt uneasy about her sleeping in her crib, in another room, inside the Dockatot on her belly. If you sleep with the baby in the bed, I think the Dockatot might be worth a shot. My coworker's DD is in her bed nightly. I wouldn't have been as paranoid about C sleeping in the Dockatot if she was right next to me. But I was up all night worrying about it being in her crib, which defeated the purpose of buying it. Long story short, it's likely best for those using it in the bed.

I am late to the party but I looooove the Dockatot. That thing is magic. I was having trouble getting LO to sleep in a flat surface until I found the Dock. He is 6 months old and still using it. Once we decide to transition him to his nursery and crib I think the Dock will be crucial in making this successful. I am definitely upgrading to the grand once the Deluxe runs its course.
