I'm not looking to diet. I don't really care for the word. I need to change my eating habits. I go back to work tomorrow and I feel like now is the time to make serious changes. I'm going to start taking my lunch to work (whatever I bring will be healthier than the pizza I would have wound up ordering, and cheaper). I'm 9 weeks PP and I'd like to start fitting into more of my clothes.
I don't want to limit myself too much because of breastfeeding, I know I need more calories. I need to spend my calories on foods that are good for me (I'm looking at you bag of Starburst).
Anyone else trying to eat better? I know we do Fit Friday but maybe we could do something with food too?
I suggest the engine 2 diet. It's really a lifestyle change not a diet. It seems extreme at first but it's one of those things that is actually easier done than said. My dh and I did the 28 day challenge and dropped 20 lbs and 10 lbs respectively. It improved our energy and overall health drastically.

Yes, I so need this! I love the Fit Friday thread but let's be honest, I'm much more likely to start eating better than start a consistent workout routine. The rut I'm in right now is that we've been eating out every week way more than we ever have before. And when we go out I have all the best intentions to be good and get just salads or that sort of thing, but once I see the menus and all of their cheesy options my willpower disappears again. I love healthy food and the way it makes me feel, so I know it wouldn't be difficult, it just needs to start happening!

It's anecdotal, but I've trimmed back my calories and haven't noticed any impact on breastmilk production (granted, I am using formula for 50% of our feedings, so I'm not asking my body to produce for LO's full need). Now, I was subscribing to the "I just had a baby and it's the holidays and I'll eat whatever the hell I want, whenever the hell I want" postpartum plan, so I definitely had some calories to trim. My goal, like yours, was to fit back into more of my pre-baby clothes. I was very small pre-baby, and I gained weight all over, especially in my butt, hips, and thighs. Getting back into my clothes has become a matter of necessity; sometimes, an occasion calls for more than sweats!
I'm a runner, but I was sidelined by sciatica in pregnancy. Now that baby is here, I'd love to get back into my 4x week routine, but having a non-napping toddler as well as an infant makes this nearly impossible (plus, it's February in Chicago, so there's that). I could hit the treadmill at night when MH gets home, but I'm just too tired at the end of the day. Right now, monitoring my diet is all I can do. For me, this has meant smaller portions, less snacking (and snacks with fewer calories), more water, and leaner meals. Since I'm doing all the cooking, I have a lot of control over what we eat for dinner. I log food and exercise using an app, and I weigh myself daily. I know many people don't like weighing daily, but it's the best way I've found to keep myself honest.

Why spend $12 on salad when you can spend $10 on a burger and fries at the same restaurant? Eating out is challenging while trying to eat healthy. The gestational diabetes diet forced me to look for healthier options while eating out so I am trying to carry those habits into my post partum lifestyle.

I'm interested in a check in or general thread too! I start every morning eating great and then about half way through the day I forget that I'm trying to eat healthy, only to remember it when I'm half way through eating a bar of dairy milk chocolate after having a sleeve of ritz crackers with cream cheese. I need accountability just so I'll remember!
I have 14 lbs to lose to be at my pre-pregnancy weight and I go back to work in 4.5 weeks. I REALLY don't want to buy new work clothes.
A week and a half ago I joined WW. So far so good. I'm tracking what I eat and planning which is good. I've been to only one meeting but I think the check ins will keep me straight and accountable.
I need to work on moving a little bit. I've never been huge into exercise and it's especially hard this time of year.
I have been using MyFitnessPal app to track my calories. The first week of logging I would go waaaay over my calories...like every day. (I love Taco Bell) But now I have balanced that out. I didn't realize just how much I was munching through out the day and it was adding up. So it helps me keep myself accountable...I don't want to log the heart shaped Reese's peanutbutter cup so I won't eat it. It's not easy. But it might help to those who don't mind logging food. It's got a huge food data base and you can log work outs (walks for me) that will adjust how many calories you have left.

Or get the burger and ask for no bun, or open faced, or spend the dollar up charge for a side salad instead of fries. You want fries? Ask for no salt. When you order anything ask for condiments on the side so you can control how much you use. When you eat out, you can still treat yourself- just make really small changes
