I'm also tired. I stayed up too late (1:20) and D had one of her crappy nights. Well I mean, it wasn't horrible but no long stretch. She went down finally at like 11:50 and was up at 3, then up again at 6, and again at 8.
She's sleeping now as I cuddle her in bed but I can't go back to sleep because we have a crazy busy day ahead. We are going to meet my parents for breakfast, then going to my ILs' house to see some relatives who are in town and want to meet D. After that it's home to watch the Pats and then we're going over to my friend's house for a casual New Years party with a gaggle of toddlers. Somewhere in there I also need to make a dip to bring over there!
C did well last night but DH and I stayed up late and now I can't stop yawning! Can I start the new year with a nap?
We are going over to my parents' to eat and watch some football this afternoon. I'm bringing chili-cheese dip and a black-eyed pea salsa (black-eyed peas for good luck) so I need to make those at some point. We are also going to take down Christmas decorations while B/our little "helper" is out of the house
Resolutions...hmm...I think in general just to be more active. I'm happy with my weight but I'd like to tone up a bit. I think even basics like walking with the stroller would be good.
I also want to continue the cleaning out/purging I've started and have everything streamlined before our move this summer.
So, all that stuff we were supposed to do today? Yeah, we lost power about an hour ago and now cannot get our cars out. We had the garage doors "fixed" recently so the remotes would work but apparently they also made it so we can't open them manually. Wtaf.

Oh no! Is it storming or something, or is there ice on the lines?
waitwhat what are your preferred reading genres? If you like historical fiction you should read New York by Edward Rutherford. Excellent but really long. Another HF I just read, a little lighter and easier read, The 100 yo Man Who Climbed Out the Window... I really enjoyed The Red Tent (it isn't as religious as the description reads) I could give plenty more if you want.
My resolutions include: - Starting yoga - Resume running and do some distance of road race (5k, 10k or even a half if I get really motivated) - have a regular payment to debt instead of periodic chunks - work on communication skills with H - purge and organize house (as much as H will let me purge)

Happy new year everyone! I'm not sure what the plan is today. Normally we go to ILs for dinner but this year H is going to the Lions game and I'm trying to decide if I want to leave the house. It's been such a busy week, I'd like to get back to some sort of bedtime routine for C again. But I also know that ILs would like to see him. We'll see.
I don't normally do resolutions but losing weight and getting healthier again are definitely needed.

No none of the above--it's 40 degrees and sunny!
My ILs came and picked us up lol. Our neighbors texted to say power is back so hopefully no more hiccups!
hangry and LizInFL I'm not big on historical. Or sci-fi types. I enjoy a good memoir but I do read fiction as well. I'm not into hunger games, Harry Potter etc. I'm always open to reading new things so I may look into those ones you suggested hangry. I may pop over to N13 and lurk.
Your tastes sound a lot like mine! I'm reading something right now that's pretty entertaining, a good mystery, too: The Secret Life of Violet Grant.
N slept great - up at 3:20 and 6:45 and then we came out to couch and she slept until 8:30! I hope this is her new normal since I can handle that and works well with our morning routine.
I'm trying to get unpacked and get organized from the trip, but my FIL is here, so not sure how much we can get done. I also need to get some sort of exercise, suddenly my grace period is over and I want to get off my butt.
Resolution:
- get back in shape (maybe run a 10 miler) - live in the moment - hopefully buy a house - apply for master's program or plan when to
+1 to the didn't get much sleep group. Why is my baby doing this? I was good, was hoping he'd dial bedtime back to midnight, not dial it forward to 4-5am? And he's fussy! I mean it's hard to not feel inadequate when I can't get him to fall asleep off the boob, but my mom can do it!?! He slept a lot yesterday so I'm sure that had a lot to do with it but I thought he was only supposed to be awake for about an hour!?!
New Years Resolutions -Get back on Weight Watchers, lose 100+ lbs -become a WW leader -get back into Zumba, -get back to swimming (waiting to be cleared for this) -pick a YMCA to join (waiting for L's immunizations) -study for and take LSAT
@sarahwithanh I saw in the other thread where M has been admitted to the hospital. Glad y'all can go home today; sleeping in hospitals is the worst when you're by yourself, let alone with a baby to tend to.
Monty is adorable and looks like he's grown so much!
@sarahwithanh I'm so glad M is headed home again, I almost missed your post last night. I'm glad you are getting the attention mand treatment he needs and deserves.
danib How cute is C! Is that 28 degrees Fahrenheit? Bc that sounds miserable to me lol but then again maybe that's warm for your location. Sorry you had a rough night
waitwhat Oooh yes, the barnacle baby, I know this phenom well.
Morning ladies. Just logged on to pay bills and renew Hs permanent resident card. We debated him applying for citizenship but it's a lot more money soooo not right now. Also took care of my hospital delivery bills. Overall the charges were about $40k post insurance, my cost is about $1500 since I met my deductible and most of my OOP Max this year already.
Now just hanging around watching football pre game stuff. I need to shower and want to actually do my hair and makeup for once. We're meeting my family for hot dogs and milk shakes later.
I try to constantly evaluate how I'm living and carrying that over to the new year my "resolutions" are:
1) Meditate daily and be present 2) Practice patience 3) Treat my body well - eat healthfully, return to yoga, get back to running, and be kind to my body image 4) Choose my words carefully and sparingly 5) Consider spending - what I need v what I want and why 6) Get outside to reflect for at least a few minutes daily

Morning all. DH let me sleep last night and gave bottles to DS2 (first time since he was born) and it was AMAZING. I feel like a new person. DS2 is still coughing/congested but seems better overall today. It is inspiring to read everyone's resolutions. The new year is a good time to reflect. Mine are:
1) Get back into regular workouts (3-4 times week) 2) Improve my self care (I've really sucked at this the last few years and especially since DS2 was born). Going to try to do something once a month just for me even if it's small. 3) More regular dates with my husband (for Christmas his gift was a quarterly date where I make the plans and arrange childcare) 4) Try to enjoy this time home with my boys. I have been wishing it away at times and even though each day can be stressful I know once I'm back at work I'm going to really miss it- goes too fast!
Anyways Happy New Year all. I am very thankful for this small group!!
2017 is not starting on the right foot over here. After my washing machine stopped spinning during the final fast drying spin yesterday, today my check engine light came on, and we completely messed up DS's convertible seat when trying to put it back in my car.
We have a service call tomorrow for washer (and dryer because that has been taking much longer than it should to dry things). Hopefully they can fix it instead of us having to buy both a new washer and dryer. H will be spending his afternoon taking the car seat apart to see if it also is fixable. And I'll have to drop by my mechanic tomorrow after the washer/dryer call to see what the light means.

I'm having a rough day over here too. O will not nap by himself. Normally he's fine sleeping on his own but not today. How do you get anything done? My Christmas tree if half put away.
danib 28 degrees?! I don't take O out if it's in the 50s. Lol but it's 78 here... I think I'm going to change him into short sleeves and go on a walk.
cookswithwine9 lol. I've gotten spoiled with the warm temps we've had this winter. When DS was born, it was -2 the morning of his first pedi appt. Other than dashing from car to building, we'd take him out if it was in the 40s, at the time that seemed downright warm in comparison.
hangry my aunt's dryer had that issue recently and it turned out the vent (in her house, not in the dryer itself) was clogged and needed cleaning--so nothing was actually wrong with the dryer, fortunately.
waitwhat I loved Anne Patchett's novel "State of Wonder." My new book club is going to read "All the Light We Cannot See" this month. It sounds interesting.
hangry I'm also going to start running again and doing 5ks with DH once Lilah is old enough for the jogging stroller. And +1 to purging as well. Already have a pile of clothes ready to go out the door. Sorry about the rough start.
tallblonde Good luck house hunting this year! What sort of masters program are you going for?
cheshie6 I also often have trouble calming Lilah off the boob, buy she falls asleep on everyone else. I think it's because they associate our smell with food. We also try to keep Lilah more awake and do a short tummy time session between 7:30 and bedtime at 9:30. Pedi recommended it to us when we were having trouble with short stretches over night, but long naps during the day.
@sarahwithanh Glad to hear you are getting to go home! I use a small towel to incline the pack n play mattress. I fold one piece over about 2/3 of the way and then the top folded down another 1/2 of that so it is more gradual than all bunched at one end of that makes sense. I can take a pic of not.
danib 28 degrees!? Holy crap that's cold. I would not do well in that. My Texan blood is too thin.
hangry my aunt's dryer had that issue recently and it turned out the vent (in her house, not in the dryer itself) was clogged and needed cleaning--so nothing was actually wrong with the dryer, fortunately.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed it is something that simple !
Started out 2017 making breakfast, taking down the tree and lights, cooking black eyed peas, and starting to plan our trip to Galveston. Tonight we will have a Christmas/New Year celebration with my dad and his gf. We'll be having bbq and champagne. True Texas style.
I'm ready for it to be March already. Cedar season hit here all of a sudden and I'm pretty miserable. I'm extremely allergic to it. It's my least favorite part of living here. The heat is awful, but feeling sick for 2 months is worse. I'm making an appointment with an allergist to see about doing shots or drops or something. This has to be my last year of this.
Goals this year: 1. Get in shape and lose at least about 20lbs. I'm starting this by walking 10 miles per week and joining in 1 fitness class at the rec center. 2. Find something just for me. Dance class, painting time, crafting of some sort, do some kind of class to learn a new skill, etc. Just something so I'm not always just wife and mommy. 3. Purge the house and get it super organized. I'm sick of having crap I never use all over. Already started this, but continuing with purpose. 4. Let go. Negative feelings, friends who are no longer friends, things I've kept out of guilt, etc.
ClassyMrsA I'm eyeing a master's in technology management. Not too exciting, but it's one of the few completely online options my university offers that applies to my current job. I'd love to get an MBA, but a lot of my co-workers have gone through the program and there is NO way I'd be able to do it with young kids while working full-time. We get free graduate courses so it would be silly not to take advantage of it.
waitwhat I'm not sure how to avoid J getting it but my goodness I hope you're able to. I just found out my 7tr old niece has bronchitis and has for like a week at least and I saw her on Xmas day and she was all up in my space (luckily not the kiddos because I kept them in car seats on the table in front of me). But she would've tried to touch them if she could've.
cookswithwine9 and LizInFL Its funny how relative it all is. Our "limit" for taking the kids out is 30s. All we're doing is taking them from warm house to warm car to warm place of business and they have the JJ Cole bundle me car seat covers so really they're usually sweating believe it or not.
Edit to clarify - not actually sweating bc obv too warm but just comfy ya know
LSS, he had what dr's thought was pneumonia for past few months - trouble breathing and pain in his muscles/joints etc so they put him on something for it. His one leg was so painful he could barely walk and they had given him a walker. Yesterday he was climbing the couple steps into his house and he had to put pressure on his opposite leg and lift the painful leg with his arms/hands. He heard a couple cracks and fell - apparently breaking his hip - falling to the ground and stuck there until my cousin found him later.
In the hospital last night, they were giving him a full work up before starting surgery and found a blood clot in that painful leg, and "shadowy masses" on his hip and right lung.
Yes, the leg had been red and swollen this entire time. How did the doctors miss this? Painful leg, trouble breathing...
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion (I held out on this book for a very long time but it's sweet and light)
If you like contemporary fiction I have a fewore suggestions too.
The Martian by Andy Weir ( technically it's sci Fi yes but as someone who avoids that genere this is one worth reading, it's humorous and just a great quick read)
On that same note Ready Player One by Ernest Cline might be interesting to you if you like 80s pop culture but it's a little more classic sci Fi (again I enjoyed it and it's not my genre)
If you life mystery the the cormran strike series by Robert Gailbreth (JL rowling pseudonym but don't let that deter you it's NOT Harry Potter)
If you like romance The naked in death series by JD Robb is fun romance mystery series (Nora Roberts pseudonym)
The Winter sea by Susannah Kearsley is one of my favorites ever. It's romance, with a hint of historic fiction and fantasy but neither are overwhelming.
That is a smattering across genres all are pretty light because I think that is some of the easiest places to start. The big chewy booms are still tough for me with the kiddos.
