I have oversupply...and its pretty uncomfortable. Any suggestions?
I am a little over 5 weeks pp. I was pumping every 2 hours and when I checked I was making 50-52oz/day and feeding LO about 25oz. Last week I cut down to pumping every 3 hours in hopes to drop my supply by about 10 oz or so because I am so damn uncomfortable, leaking 24/7, and tied to my pump. The amount I'm making has not decreased at all. Now I'm just engorged all the time. At first it was taking longer to empty, but now I'm empty in about 20 minutes. How can I decrease my supply a little? Cut out another pump or two?
Keep gradually spacing things out. If you are still pumping about 8 times a day that is still a lot, try to get down to 5 or 6 times. As PP mentioned cabbage leaves and some herbs can decrease supply, but those never really worked for me when i was trying to reduce supply. Pump until you are comfortable and dont completely empty. It may take weeks until you really see a change.
You're still really early to be trying to reduce your supply. The first 12 weeks are more hormone driven than supply and demand driven, and trying to reduce supply early can really hurt long-term.
Weeks 1-10 I was freezing 30 ounces a day. 10-13 I was freezing about 20 ounces a day. After that, I suddenly dropped to about 20 extra ounces per week. The only reason was the hormones leveling off. I didn't cut pumps or anything. Now I barely make what he drinks per day (6.5 months pp).
I would suggest pumping every 3 hours during the day and every 4-5 at night for no less than 6 pumps per day. Just my advice.
Thank you everyone for the advice. I've been at 8 pumps for a week now, with no drop in supply. My plan is to drop to 7 and then 6 pumps a day. I don't plan on dropping any lower than that for some time.
