Since being laid off I lost my employer coverage, and missed the deadline to convert to another plan without any hassle. But the company working with my old job still called and said I could still get coverage...I am clueless when it came to this so we first met with our own financial advisor...who explained the difference between term and whole life but then said I probably couldn't get covered while pregnant through them so if this other company can do it that might be a good idea.
Later they email and say maybe they can submit me, but I may still be denied.
Anyway, I met with the first company today and started the application process. They asked a lot of personal/medical questions and said it may take a month to find out. I still owe them some info, so in the meantime we have a call scheduled with our financial advisor, who is now also talking about the application process.
So I guess my question(s) are:
1) Is it normal to be asked medical questions by the directly agent and to have to have a medical exam? The first part seemed like a HIPAA violation.
2) Will there be a difference between going through my financial advisor v.s. this outside company (they work with MetLife).
3) Why does this seem so weird?
Okay not really the last question but any perspective is helpful. I feel like I'm making a big deal over nothing. I just feel like I should have some coverage while I'm pregnant. Hopefully I'll find a new job soon at which point I'm not sure I'd want the separate insurance anyway.
TIA
