We got the call from the fertility doctor regarding our frozen embryos. There was a credit on our account that was more than enough to cover this years storage fees. But we are done having babies so it would be a waste of a decent amount of money that could go towards something else. Besides, the chances of us changing our minds about having another baby at the end of that year is pretty slim. But the finality of it all kind of has both of us in an unexpected emotional state.
We cant afford another baby living the lifestyle we are. That lifestyle is very important to us. But there are 6 perfectly healthy embryos that are going to waste. There are 3 different options as to what are done with them. 1. They are destroyed. 2. We can donate them to research 3. We can donate them to another prescreened person/couple of our choosing.
3. is absolutely out. I originally wanted to donate them so someone else would have the chance to have a baby. But the idea of our 100% biological child wandering around freaks us out a bit. Also the idea that at some point in that child's life if they ever need something medically the other family would reach out. I know it sounds far fetched, but its still possible. I would never be able to deny that child our help. It also almost feels like we are giving our children away. I know they aren't children yet, but ugh....no. Cant do it
2. Is the option we will most likely go with. If we cant help another person/couple with our embryos we can at least have our embryos used in research to help others obtain and carry a healthy baby. But again, what kind of research are they using them for? Are they using them as test subjects and putting them in other women to see the results? New theories on Human embryos have to be tested somehow right?
1. Destroying them just seems like a waste. We went through so much to get them here, that just getting rid of them doesn't seem right.
Ugh, why cant I just have all the babies??
