We just had a 10 minute conversation at work about the new 50 Shades of Grey movie... with extremely comical input from my (male) boss. Today is going to be interesting lol

The school just called and tried to cancel our meeting to evaluate L that is in 3 hours. His teacher won't be there today so they were wanting to reschedule. I told them no that I didn't want to both H and I took off work for this. The district psychologist only comes to our school once every few weeks on Fridays at exactly 12:55 pm so rescheduling would mean waiting another month or so and both of us taking another full day off work. I want to have this meeting today and they can get his teachers input next week. The teachers aid will be there as well as about 7 other people.
Ugh, I am so angry at them right now. Every time I talk to the guy who schedules these meetings I get the impression that they are deliberately making it inconvenient/nearly impossible to get help for the kids who may need them.

sarcaztic10, I would be pissed too. Rescheduling the meeting only prolongs the time he is without help. That's ridiculous!
We saw DD's pediatrician yesterday, she confirmed a tic disorder. She believes it is Tourette's, but said in order to get an official documented diagnosis it has to be done by a neurologist. I'm waiting to hear back from them to schedule her appointment. I feel overwhelmed because I know this is going to be challenging for her, and I'm also really upset at the possibility that she will be teased. Like I tear up just thinking about it. I also feel like it gets worse by the day, but that may be because I'm more aware of it. Either way I'm just feeling some kind of way about everything.

Ok, the guy called back. Again he sounded like he and everyone else is really inconvenienced by having this meeting... but the teachers aid "feels confident enough" that she can fill in for his teacher and contribute their piece of the puzzle.
icaughtfire I hope you are able to get in with a neurologist soon! H and I hate that L having ADHD and possibly anxiety (according to what the psychologist is saying) will affect him his whole life and it will really shape his relationships at school. It is already hard for him to make friends. It is so hard to see your child struggling. I can offer ((hugs)), I know how you are feeling.
Good for you sarcaztic10. Keep pushing. It would be easier for them to blow you off forever but you will advocate for your baby and get him what he needs whether they feel like it or not. I swear people are just lazy and complacent sometimes.
We might be having a playdate with near strangers. I exchanged numbers with a mom at a playground and were trying to plan this afternoon. We don't know each other at all beyond our daughters playing really well together. What if she's really into Trump or something?

::hugs for days:: icaughtfire. I'm sorry. I hope the neuro appointment goes well and that there is a great care plan in place for her. She may get teased, yes, but know in your heart she WILL make and have wonderful friends and family that look beyond the outside. Growing up I was teased a lot for the way I walk (man I miss being pregnant, no one batted an eyelash at me), but I made many lifelong friends along the way that would go to battle for me over anyone ridiculing me. I suggest you seek out any Facebook parent groups for Tourette's. They will be a great resource for provider recommendations, care ideas, and support for you.
But seriously, I'm pretty sure my sister doesn't vaccinate and I won't ask because our relationship survives by politely not talking about stuff. It's weird.

Big hugs, icaughtfire. You're doing so much to help your daughter, and it will be challenging for her, but it will be easier because you're in her corner getting the help she needs.
sarcaztic10 I'm sorry the school is jerking you around. Good for you for refusing to cancel! I hope the meeting goes well.

Busy day today, went to our walking group at the track and working on packing for the weekend. We're going to a friend's cottage tomorrow and it's a four hour drive, so our plan is to have the car loaded tonight and hit the road early tomorrow morning. DH is picking up dinner so that's one thing off my list!

Well, the meeting went well. They say that L really is making a lot of progress in the intervention groups and that right now it's just not translating when he is in the classroom. They think that with a bit more time and the medication it should start getting a lot better. His main issue is just not being able to focus well enough on the one task without getting distracted. They say that he is actually very smart because he has jumped from the 2nd percentile to the 50th in his intervention groups just since the start of school. They feel confident that he is in good hands and as soon as we get the medication and therapy aspect in place he will be more on track.
Overall I am feeling good, like we actually accomplished something.
Awesome news sarcaztic10! I hope things continue to improve for L. He's lucky to have parents who will fight for his best interests.
Today is a good day. After 2 weeks of non-stop rain, it's finally sunny. Spent the day at the playground with friends - DS1 had a blast, and E slept or was happy the whole time. Beef stew is in the crockpot for dinner. Both boys are currently napping. And I'm doing absolutely nothing.
sarcaztic10, I would be pissed too. Rescheduling the meeting only prolongs the time he is without help. That's ridiculous!

If it's any help I've an anecdote.
I didn't know one of my best friends had Tourette's until we were applying to university and he got the sweet dorm rooms for accessibility (lame use of system but different story). I never noticed his tic until he told me what it was (he constantly stretched his neck and blinked. I knew him for like 8 years.
