4 nights in a row Robert is waking up crying and standing in his crib. Twice he was really wet, the other 2 his diaper was fine. We tried just changing and rocking to sleep.... Then a bottle and more rocking.
Each time he's been up for at least 2.5 hours.... Last night it was 4. Tonight we're at the 2 hour mark and he's laying with DH on the couch.
The minute we stop holding him or stop rubbing his back he flips out. I tried to let him CIO and he went from standing.... Then sitting.... Then back to standing! 20 minutes later I had to get him.
Help.....
To make things worse, this crazy sleep routine is giving me the worst headaches ever. I was out commission for half the day the last 2 nights and I can feel another one about to start.

We are going through the same thing here! I have a feeling it's a mix of the teething and learning a new skill (he's starting to walk). I want him to "master" walking or else have these teeth poke through because I can't function on little to no sleep right now while student teaching on top of work and taking classes.

I sadly think it is just the age. T is not his usual sleeping self. The last 3 days he also woke himself up with poop which is really unusual for him.
I suppose short naps (20 mins) interrupted by poop are better than the 3 nights previous where he pooped in the tub. With DD in it. And she grabbed the poop thinking it was a toy.
We've been up since 5 this morning, 15 min nap, and now I'm sitting in the car with him asleep hoping it'll last a long while. Otherwise dinner will need to involve alcohol for me. In coffee. Irish coffee for dinner.
Hope everyone gets some sleep soon. It does pass. Eventually. And if not, once they have a boyfriend or girlfriend it's not your problem anymore

We got through this anytime he's feeling better after being sick. The best thing I can suggest is being consistent & of you can handle some crying let it happen & try to soothe without picking up. Mh is better at this so I let him do more on these nights.

He was awake (off and on) for 3 hours last night. Ugh. Every time we held him he would fall asleep in our arms... go to put him back in his crib... and he'd pop up crying. Then I'd rub his back which would keep him down and content, but the minute I tried to walk away the tears would start flowing again. I tried just shutting the door and letting him cry it out... but after 20 minutes it didn't seem like it would work at all. Let's hope he doesn't make tonight #5!
I'm sorry! We are going through a similar phase. LO falls asleep on my chest but as soon as I put her in the crib she freaks out. So I have to repeat this process 2 or 3 times before she finally passes out. Or my husband will give a bottle. LO is usually up for about an hour in the middle of the night. She is getting 2 more top teeth so I think it's related. During the day she is very clingy to me. We are also exhausted but we try to keep reminding ourselves that it's just a phase. Good luck and go drink a coffee or soda wilth caffeine!

I'm a lurker from parenting (hi!) but have a march '14 baby. I second what a lot of pp said. We went through this with dd after she got sick and then cut some teeth. We did Ferber for a couple naps and 1 night and it seemed to "reset" her back to her normal routine. Good luck!
Yes! LO did this three nights in a row and is now clapping and taking steps all the time and LO and behold she's sleeping for 8-10 hours a stretch at night. Our was a combo developmental and double ear infections but it passed. Hang in there!

Somers Isles I'm sorry Robert won't sleep. My first guess when LO for this is always teething. How is he during the day? The other thing that keeps my LO is constipation (he has a really bad problem with that).
Had you done CIO before this started, or just tried it for the first time this week? If you've tried it before and it worked, I would try it a few more times, especially if nothing else works.
that sucks! our lo has had a rough week of sleeping as well. our worst night this week was him waking at midnight and crying for 30 mins, then waking multiple times until about 3:30 am, when nothing I did would soothe him or get him back down. he would fall asleep the moment I picked him up, but if I set him down he screamed. I ended up just letting him cry (seriously, nothing would get him down) and he cried for 2.5 hours. ugh. not even feeding or going in his swing helped. the next night though he woke up only 3 times and I was able to get him back down after a few mins, then last night he slept pretty well. it seemed like last week he was just super uncomfortable, but after a few nights he eased back into his routine. FX your lo gets over it!
We went through this 2 weeks ago but ours was more crying out every 1-2 hours and needed her butt patted every time to get back to sleep. Took a good solid 8-9 nights to get better but it did. Hang in there! Sleep deprivation stinks

Please tell me this will pass......
This is my house right now. I even took him to the dr to make sure his ear infection was cleared up. Up down up down, scream cry i let it go 30 minutes last night befroe i gave in and snuggled with him in the chair. Put him on my chest and of course he's out like a light. I'm hoping its molars or seomthing. When he was getting his first two teeth in the front he was uber cranky too.

DD went through a spell of this. No teeth but it was right around the time she was gaining motor skills. We went in the first night it happened to make sure she was ok - she's always been a good sleeper so it was odd. Then we stopped going in. We didn't want to develop any bad habits. FX it's just developmental and passes soon.

Well here I sit... Rocking Robert to sleep. This time he wouldn't even go down to sleep for bedtime! That was new! It's been 90 minutes so far.
We've done a bit of CIO but he never ever needed much. sometimes he'd cry/fuss for 10 minutes then be good. Bedtime has always been easy.
I let him cry just now and I thou he was going to fall asleep but his legs kept getting stuck in the slats of the crib as he say there. He'll just sit up and cry ... Then find his thumb and seem calm (still sitting up) then repeat.
Now he's in my arms and I'm certain that the minute I put him in his crib, even though he is fast asleep, he'll wake up crying.
I just don't want to start any bad habits. I can't take another day of headaches. Any time my sleep is thrown off I get awful headaches which turn into migraines. Ugh.
