I keep seeing some people on my newsfeed posting about how democrats protested Lincoln's inauguration... 1) the democrats and republicans of the 1860s are not the same as the ones today, and 2) drumpf is not Lincoln!

Same! I couldn't resist and had to comment when my friend posted this just to remind him that the democrats of Lincoln's time = the current republicans. lol

I'm biting my tongue but I'm not going to be able to for much longer.. the ideologies have flip flopped over the past 150 years but people seem to forget that fact..
We woke up at 5AM to drive 6 hours but made it into the city for the NYC march and I'm so glad we did. The crowd was amazing and it felt good to be a part of it. Some old guy came through yelling about the next election and it turned out to be Chuck Schumer.
If only he'd extend that to make sure pre-existing conditions are covered..
I don't always agree with him, despite (or maybe especially) being a state employee, but damn, it's a step in the right direction to make sure state residents are protected with the shit show that is our federal level
I don't go on Twitter much but I was caught off guard when Trump's tweet showed up on my feed and was distraught all over again when I realized he had taken over @potus and I had to unfollow. 😭
My unfriend and unfollow button is on fire these days. As much as I like the area that I live in, it really is disheartening when I am definitely in the minority regarding current politics. A lot of people I like or respected I'm realizing are kind of shitty people and I feel like I will have no friends or acquaintances soon because I don't want to associate with it.
2. Sign up with the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, newly headed up by Eric Holder, with the aim of combatting the effects of gerrymandering. signforgood.com/NDRCPac/
My personal favorite: 3. Go to www.swingleft.org and find out where the closest swing district is to where you live, and sign up now to start helping turn it blue.
And the Global gag rule is back in place. Any NGO that accepts US aid can't even talk about abortions to anyone or even use their own money to give information about abortions. Not a huge surprise given that every GOP pres since Reagan has done the same and every Dem pres has rescinded it. But disappointing none the less.
What sane person (sadly, multiple non-sane people) introduces a bill that makes it okay to KILL someone due to negligence??? WHAT THE FUCK.
This is part of a bill introduced in North Dakota.
"Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a driver of a motor vehicle who negligently causes injury or death to an individual obstructing vehicular traffic on a public road, street, or highway may not be held liable for any damages."

I know. I knooooooow. I feel like everything I read is insane and this world makes no sense any more.

I know this bill is really aimed at protestors (WTF?) but it also means that if your car breaks down in the middle of the road and someone doesn't feel like stopping for the broken down car, they can hit you without any sort of liability. Again - WTF?

I just had to unfollow my niece on fb because of all of the pro-Trump, anti-Democrat stuff she's been putting on there since this weekend. She's not even 13 yet. She's just repeating the crap she's hearing at home. It makes me so sad. And angry.

sleepymonkey don't you have to be 13 to be on FB? It annoys me when kids get on FB so young. One of my "friends" made her kid a FB at like age 10 and it drove me crazy.

Ugh, that makes me sad, too. It really discouraged me when our state's students voted for Trump in a mock election. I want to have more faith in our future.
I got into it with H's aunt earlier, who posted about how marchers were whiny and not strong like her (it was that copy/paste idiocy that's going around). She was a condescending jerk back, about how I need to make peace with people disagreeing with me, and saying that I was twisting her words (I had literally quoted her post to her). With lots of caps locking about god and whatnot.
H has been telling me for a while she's not a safe person, but I thought she was a harmless kind of nut. Now I see he's right, and she's not getting anywhere near our baby.

I think so but I know so many people who have allowed their younger kids to have pages. My 11 year old nephew also just started one but he barely uses it.

PirateCat, the problem is that so many students just echo what they hear at home so if their parents are big Trump supporters, they will think he's the "right choice". I wasn't the least bit interested in anything political until after college and I got out in the real world and was able to formulate my ideas for myself.
I just can't....my mom posted a meme about in a world of Kardashians, be an Ivanka. I don't follow her and usually try to ignore her ridiculousness when I take a look at her FB....but I replied that I'm going to teach my daughters to aim higher...to be a Michelle and then posted a pic of Michele Obama with her quote "When you've worked hard, and done well, and walked through that doorway of opportunity, you do not slam it shut behind you. You reach back, and you give other folks the same chances that helped you succeed."
I am also tempted to call her our on the meme of Paul Ryan about "you pay for my healthcare so I con't have to care about yours" YOU DID THIS TO YOURSELF...YOU PICKED THESE PEOPLE>>>>you have preexisting health conditions and are talking about looking for another job >>bangs head on desk
Children echoing parents and their beliefs is exactly why I ended up having the problem a couple of weeks ago. Even though the kids said racist things to me an another student, one of the student's parents accused me of all kinds of things, like calling their kid a racist (I did not) and then said that only "people like me" would think/know that all Muslims are not terrorists. It really has become Trump's America and it's the saddest thing to watch.

My dad is a YUGE Trump supporter, loves the guy. He told me the day after the election was one of the first times he was really optimistic about the world again. He is retired, but his benefits were cut into (health and dental) and retirement payments much less (how much his gets each month to live off of). He applied for his old job and got it. He went and got the physical and was waiting for a start date. He called since it had been awhile, and they said Trump has put a hiring freeze on all federal jobs, and they were trying to see if that counted towards the people already offered job. The people who will be most effected by this is veterans who get preferential hiring into government job. There are 2000 open jobs that will not be filled. Once the government starts hiring outside contactors many experts think it will cost the tax payers a lot more.
sagen that makes me sad and I think there will be a lot of people that will come to realize that Trump made empty promises and false statements to get their votes and that his policies will actually hurt so many people. What does your dad think of Trump now that he is directly and negatively impacted by his actions as president?
