I figured that since a bunch of us are going to have a lot of feels on this, we could do a special thread on it for those who don't want to see it today...
I just feel so sad. I really should stay away from social media today. luckily I follow a lot of groups that will also be having the same feelings....but I can't handle the people I know that are happy for today....usually I have no issues accepting people's different views, etc.....this election has really made it hard

I just feel so down today. I wanted to wear all black but I forgot to wash my black pants last night so I'm wearing dark wash jeans and a black shirt and cardigan. I'm at work so I won't have to avoid the TV but I'm in a very red area working for a defense contractor so there is a lot of positive Trump talk happening here today. I'm just staying in my little cubicle and trying to ignore it.

I saw on CNN that Trump plans to sign some executive orders right after the inauguration today and more on Monday but he's not sure which ones yet. That terrifies me to no end.
I need my H out of the house today. He didn't vote for Dump but he's very much so an average white guy so his mentality is "it's going to be fine, there's nothing we can do anyway".
There's a section in the baby book that says "national leaders".. I was so looking forward to writing HRC in it. Now, I think I'm just going to put "we're not going to talk about it"
I think the thing I am flabbergasted most about is how excited and happy people some are.
His cabinet picks, Tillerson, Perry, Sessions, DeVos, Carson (Steve Harvey for help), and so on...what in the world. His Presidency is like who cares about education, arts, healthcare, the environment, American Intelligence Agencies, logic, inclusiveness.... but yay for huge tax cuts for the rich, twitter fights, and Russia.
I feel like I am living in an alternate reality from Trump supporters why are they happy? Why are they not worried?!?
sagen I was told yesterday that the last 8 years have been horrible by "the person leaving office tomorrow" and how they can't wait for it all to be fixed 😡😡
I feel like I've been living in denial for months and reality is just now hitting me
It's so infuriating trying to make him understand. Obviously he's not racist or anything like that because we wouldn't be married if he was but dude, come on you have to see what's happening here. Maybe it will finally hit home for him when our paychecks are affected or our children's education is affected or God forbid there's a national tragedy.

Haha, I've been thinking about this! So sad to not be able to put Obama in her baby book...not sure I can write trump! Maybe I'll put no comment haha.
I'm trying not to think about it today. My H is trying to get out of the house and avoid TV. I work in education, and am also a social worker so I am simply terrified how this is going to impact our youth, education system, health care, mental health system and so on.

lupincat, I was reading MLK's letter from Birmingham jail, and he talks about "white moderates" and how while they may be sympathetic to the cause to some extent, they lack the understanding of urgency and how detrimental that is to the cause. I think it is hard for a lot of people to look beyond their own bubbles and and empathize with other peoples' struggles, and I think that has a lot to do with why we are where we are today. It is an interesting read and sadly still so relevant so many years later.

shandorfml2, MH is a mental health therapist and is so upset how this is going to affect the mental health community, both the workers and the patients. Just the repeal of the ACA alone will mean that many people will not have the mental health coverage they so desperately need. It's a tragedy.

After the election, I tried to rationalize things to make myself feel better. I told myself that he would surround himself with smart people who know what they're doing. I told myself he would tone down his inflammatory tone. I told myself surely he would step away from Twitter. And now here we are on inauguration day and he has done none of that. And I get so angry when his supporters say that we're just upset that HRC lost and the liberals are no longer in power. No that's not it at all! It's him. I'm upset that he is going to be the president and his cabinet is going to be made up of billionaires with no experience in the areas that they are supposed to be in charge of. If it was another Republican who won, while I wouldn't be happy about it, I would not be so worried because I'm an pretty sure they would at least surround themselves with smart people. And the fact that the house and senate are both Republican run makes it even scarier to have this person in power. At this point, my only hope for the next 4 years is that this administration does not cause any irreparable harm to the country/world.
PirateCat I truly agree with him. I see a lot of people saying, why should I pay for others food or healthcare, why does my hard earned money go to those who mooch off the system. Why can't women keep their legs shut, or be more responsible, or give the baby up for adoption. Why shouldn't I pick the best school for my child? Saying all lives matter, instead of listening. What they don't seem to understand is that you should care about others period. Beyond that, and on a selfish level it benefits you to live in a society of happy well cared for people. It benefits you to make sure all children get a great education, that all people have access to healthcare, and are not hungry. That all people feel included in this country, and are treated with equality. That selfish idea of I'm gonna get my own, is to their detriment because it is to societies detriment.

I hope the democrats do well in the 2018 election and can at least take majority over the house. Republican control over both house and senate along with Trump scares the shit out of me.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me — and there was no one left to speak for me.
I really wish more people would take those words to heart. That we really need to protect and take care of one another.
It does give me hope to see like-minded parents and soon-to-be-parents here that can hopefully raise more empathetic humans.
PirateCat I come back to that piece often as a reminder. It makes me so sad that people don't get its an issue unless it affects them directly.
I wish you guys the best of luck over the next 4 years.
Kevin O'Leary announced this week he's going to run for the Conservative leadership here in Canada. I really hope that Canadians are smart enough to learn from Trump that it's not a good idea.

I don't understand those that are only concerned about me and mine. I find it frustrating that those that are quick to say all lives matter or blue lives matter, do not truly understand the movement behind black lives matter.
I am a social worker in health care. As a professional, woman, mother and most of all a human I just can't understand how we got here....shouldn't the United States of America be the place where basic human rights are honored the most?
a few minutes ago I was sitting outside of a patient room doing documentation and overheard a conversation between another elderly sounding woman and younger sounding woman as they were watching the inauguration. At first I almost got up because there were statements that made me uncomfortable...including a comment from the younger woman about how much she likes Pence.....but as the conversation continued I heard the older sounding woman talk about how Hilary should have won because she is the candidate that got more votes and a few other comments that made me smile. I took a look at the unit roster and the woman was 100 years old and it made me smile more :-)
The next four years may be hard....but I truly think that this election has united a group of people full of fire that will work together toward a better future.

chknma, I get so aggravated at people who only vote based on one issue or what is going to benefit themselves the most. Shouldn't we as the human race look out for each other and not just ourselves? My brother is a prime example. He is a police officer and says that democrats hate the police so he will only vote republican. A) that's not true about democrats and B) why can you only look at one issue and forget the many many other issues that are at hand? I just don't get it.
