DS2 (4 months) has influenza A and RSV. I'm scared out of my mind, DH and I both also have the flu. FTR, we both got flu shots this year. DS2 is too young for tamiflu, so we just have to ride this out. His lungs sounded good yesterday, but it was only day 2. They said things will get a lot worse before they get better.
Any experience with either the flu or RSV in an infant?

Sending good thoughts.
Paging katelm. I believe she had norovirus with her little one and she may have also had rsv. We've had lots of illness talk on our BMB so hopefully I got that right.

Oh goodness, I'm so so sorry. DD had RSV at 3 months. She was hospitalized after we noticed retractions in her ribs and DH saw her face turn blue. It was awful. The hospital did tell us that the scariest stories are with children under 2 months and that did bring me some comfort.
The think I remember being most frustrated over the length of time it takes for them to eat again. It's just so scary when they won't eat- especially at that age. Are you nursing (I'm sorry, I thought you were, but can't remember)? You might want to touch base with a LC about your supply. I was EPing at that point, so I was okay. Other than that, the cough lasts forever, but we were told babies don't really have the power to cough germs out a good distance, so that helps with contagiousness.

ruthie thank you! They did tell us to go straight to the ER of we saw retractions, nostril flaring, blue or head bobbing. We got to back to the pedi tomorrow.
I am nursing. I didn't even think of my supply. He hardly ate yesterday, but he ate pretty well through the night. He's a huge comfort nurser, so that's a plus. I will try to add in some pumping today.
No experience, but big hugs. I can't imagine my LO having one of them, never mind both. I hope his lungs continue to sound good and he doesn't need hospitalization. I hope you and Mr. Bear feel better too.

Two viruses at once is always tricky for babies. T&P your LO does ok. You have close pedi follow up and that's what's best for now. I hope you can avoid hospitalization but if not we are here for you then too.

My niece had RSV at about 5 months. It looks much scarier than it really is. She stayed in the hospital overnight and they had to put in an IV, but ultimately she was totally fine. My sister said the IV and tests were the worst because she had to hold her down and there is very little comforting you can do for a baby when needles are being shoved in their arms.
I'm so sorry you're experiencing this, but your DS will be fine. It will probably harrowing to watch, but he'll be fine! Hugs and T&Ps to you.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. My only advice, which I'm sure I don't even need to tell you, would be to not hesitate to take him to the ER if you feel he's getting bad. I hope everyone feels better soon.

I'm so sorry karabear4409. We dealt with RSV at about 4 or 5 months. We ended up with a nebulizer which helped. I hope this passes quickly for you guys.

Riley just had RSV and she bounced back quickly. She got it at 10.5 months though. I can't imagine her having it at 4 months. The doctor gave me specific instructions on what to listen and look for in her breathing. I slept sitting up with her the night she was diagnosed to help her breathe a little bit better. And I say "slept" but there wasn't much sleeping on my part. Every time she moved I woke up to make sure she was breathing okay. I had a small bag packed and was ready to go to the ER. Luckily, it never got that bad. She went back to the pedi the next day and was sounding much better.
Did your doctor tell you what to look for on his chest? Pulling in at the ribs and the little triangle near his collarbone?
I know it's scary, hang in there! We're here for you. And don't be afraid to call a nurse or your doctor... or just go to the ER if you're worried.
Hugs karabear4409 my bff kid got rsv last year she was admitted to the hospital on day 5 for supportive care and was released 5 days later. The biggest thing to remember is to keep your eyes and ears open and check on them every 2 hours if they are sleeping. Also bring them back to the pedi everyday if you have to.

Lots of healthy vibes. It's so scary. DS was in the emergency room 3 times from 3m to 4m. He had RSV and then was finally diagnosed with reactive airway disease (or asthma for kids over 1). It was so awful to see him struggling with breathing so much. Thankfully between the breathing treatments and the steroid shots he got better. And now he's just on an inhaler everyday.
Hopefully your LO can keep their fluid intake up and get some good rest. If I remember correctly my pediatrician had us give DS a small amount of pedialyte to keep him hydrated. Then we did the usual humidifier, trying to keep his head elevated when he slept, and I was taking him into the bathroom while I showered so he got the steam.

kensie5226 Thanks! Part of me wants him to stay in the hospital, just so I know he's being closely monitored. But I know that would be so hard.
lindy04aggie they did tell us everything to watch for! Thanks! He started wheezing a little today, but none of the red flags. I was up all night last night too and let him sleep on my chest for a couple of hours. Even feeling terrible myself, I made sure to shower this morning in case we end up in the hospital. I'm glad she's doing better!
@dyork OMG. That's so scary. I can't even imagine how hard that must have been. I'm glad he's doing better. Our pedi told us to push the pedialyte too. I haven't been able to get him to take it in a bottle or syringe though. Any advice?
Thank you everyone else for all of the hugs and well wishes! It means a lot. ❤️
