I am a SAHM. Before DS1 was born, I worked for the government in election administration. I did public relations for the office and public education. I worked in the public schools to educate students about voting and register the high school seniors and organized voter registration drives. On the PR side, I handled all of the media relations, social media, website and publications.
Overall, I liked it. I felt like I was making a difference in the community. The stress of the job fluctuated based on the election cycle. If my exact position became available again in a couple of years, I would consider going back.
Unrealistically, I would love to be a nurse practitioner for a RE. Totally unrealistic though because that would require starting totally over in schooling.
I work at an ad agency. Generally speaking, I really like what I do...but how much I'm enjoying myself really depends on the client. Some are just ridiculous.
On days like today, Professional Napper sounds good. Actually I was SAHM for 6 months and really loved it. I used to be super super professional girl, but I've changed I guess...and I luckily didn't feel too isolated like I know some do who prefer to work in an office.
I work PT but basically SAHM. Before I sah I was in the criminal justice field however I am trained in animal sciences with a specialty in reproduction. I plan to go ft into medical advocacy, however I am seriously thinking of becoming a doctor or pA for complex care.

I'm an environmentalists scientist. Thank the sun I live in CA so any shit psychopath Trump tries to pass in regards to deregulation of environmental laws will not affect my work since CA has its own Environmental Quality Act companies must follow along with other CA specific Environmental regulations. I like my job because I help protect endangered, threatened and special status plants and wildlife, but it has become very stressful since I've been back from maternity leave. We are trying to crunch numbers to see if I can quit.
My dream job would be to help rehab injured wildlife...orphaned animals specifically!
I was a vice principal for a junior high and high school prior to becoming a stay at home mom. I absolutely loved my job and will go back in a heartbeat.
But now I'm considering being a new patient consult at an RE's office. That initial consultation was so scary when I first started. I saw a lot of RE's and some of those initial meetings were tough. No understanding. Straight business. Not good information. Made me angrier during a very sensitive time. I would love to be a face of patience and care when couples first come in to start the crazy journey.

I was a social worker, but I SAH now. Most of my experience was in adoption and foster care, but I also worked for a bit with undocumented children, families in transitional housing and in hospital L&D/ postpartum. I've had offers to pick up some PT work writing home studies or running adolescent substance abuse groups, but I was really burnt out when I left my job. And, with the current administration's cuts to Medicaid and aid for refugees, I'm not sure there will be many available social work positions for me anyway. I still do my CEUs to maintain my license, but idk what I'll do in the future.
TBH, I really want to work PT at a winery when the kids start elementary school. We have several by our house and it just looks like such a chill job. Those people always seem so happy. I was so stressed all the time as a social worker. I don't miss that.

I am a graduate student and part time teacher/tutor with some local programs. I was a full time high school teacher before coming back to school. In a few years when I am done I can hopefully pursue my dream job of being a professor and writing books that nobody reads .
ETA: pipe dream would be to start my own school/program but realistically it is not something I will do
Before becoming a SAHM recently, I worked for a government agency that administered and enforced civil rights laws and investigated discrimination complaints. I liked the work itself.... for the most part. I almost went back to the same profession when they were (are) looking to fill the supervisor position, but said nope, I'm staying at home.

I was an elementary school teacher before SAH. I got my masters in reading and literacy and became an at-risk reading teacher. I loved it. I don't think I'll ever go back to full time teaching because my DH works long hours, travels a decent amount, and we have no family in the area to help. I do think I'll sub in my boys' school once DS2 starts kindergarten.
If I could stand the sight of blood, I think being an L&D nurse would be so cool. I find it so interesting and amazing.
I'm currently a pediatric nurse but will be graduating this April with my Family Nurse Practitioner degree! I really love peds and if I can get the school to count my pediatric hours in my program, I am going to take one more class/do the clinical hour difference and be double certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner as well. I love peds and lactation consulting (don't have my IBCLC yet, it's another 500 hours or something crazy and another exam.....one thing at a time). Hopefully I can find a pediatric office willing to hire me

I do HR/payroll for a small department at a private university. I really do love what I do, but I have been looking at higher level positions, doing mostly the same thing with some additional duties. When I first came to this position, I hated the part of my job that involved processing visa applications for non US citizen new employees. But now, I've done so many, I'm a pro and actually enjoy it. I LOVE volunteering, so I'd love to work for a non-profit someday. Specifically, feeding and providing services to low income and homeless people/families.

dp21 Being a pediatric nurse, do you find yourself to be overly anxious or super calm about illnesses and injuries? My sister is a family practitioner, and is so laid back with her kids' illnesses. Not much gets her nervous!
leahb12, I'm really laid back with my daughter. We pretty much just go in for well visits. It would have to be really bad for me to take her in/I think she needs antibiotics. Knock on wood, that hasn't happened yet...but she's only 2. So many things are viral and they just need to run their course. My daughter's PNP actually trained me in pediatrics because I asked her to (she's amazing), so it's nice that we became good friends and I have her number if needed But yeah, not going to waste a co-pay when I already know what they are going to say haha and I'm not concerned.
However, I was super anxious when I was pregnant, not only because of IF stuff but because I work with lots of former preemies with major chronic complications. So I would equate, 25 week pregnancy....ooo...this could happen etc. Just made me paranoid about all that could go wrong. My 20 week US, I was a basket case and on pins and needles the whole time. So many people enjoy them as gender reveal, but being in the medical field, that's where you can discover many possible birth defects.

I work in early intervention (birth to 3 with a delay or disability) doing developmental evaluations and family therapy(attachment, play, behavior). I primarily work with families referred to us from social services with an open child protective case, but we get referrals from doctors offices and parents too. It's challenging, but I like it.

dp21 I wish I was like you! My family is all doctors and nurses (except for me), and while I am definitely not a doctor or nurse, I probably know more about medicine than the average person. Unfortunately this has just turned me into a ball of anxiety. DS1 has also had SO many ear infections, strep throat infections, adenoids out, a puker enough to be hospitalized for fluids, and close to getting his tonsils out, so he has had more doctor visits and antibiotics than I had hoped.
leahb12, oh no! Ear infection, strep are absolute reasons to go in. Some kids are just more susceptible than others. Sounds like you aren't just being anxious, have good reason to go in! Hopefully being sick so much is building DS an AWESOME immune system

Yay for the social workers!! A good friend works in early intervention with the county and loves it. I keep getting those CEUs, but only because that license was so hard to get and I don't want to let it lapse. If I were to go back, I think I'd explore some macro level positions. I just got so tired of the drama in direct practice!!
I am a middle school math teacher, specifically eighth grade. I taught sixth grade math for six years. I absolutely love it. I was in a rut until I moved to my current grade level, and now I'm having the best year of my teaching career to date.
Dream job - student. I'd really love to get paid to go to school.

What a cool range of jobs!
I am an RN but never worked FT since getting my degree, and now I am a SAHM. My dream job is to be a midwife. I was in school to do just that when I got pregnant, and I ended up having to leave the program. I am hoping to go back to school once the babies are at least a year old.
karabear4409 If that's what you really want, go for it! There were lots of second career people in my class at nursing school.
bocaburger, hey hey fellow RN! Go back to school! How much do you have left of your program? I am taking my antepartum class with midwifery students currently. They are so great and knowledgable!
karabear4409, I'm a second career nurse who did a second career program if you ever want info!

I'm not sure how long I have left, probably about 2 years but it depends on the program and how many transfer credits they accept. I am also thinking about going to school PT so I can either spend more time with the kids or work and offset the costs of going back. So many factors to consider!
bocaburger, I'm in the part-time plan, 4 years in the making. Had my DD during the program and kept on going and was only able to because I was part-time. It was the best and I'd highly recommend it. My work offers tuition assistance if you work at least 20 hours a week. This past year though I've been a full-time student (just the nature of FNP, even in a part-time program because we do everything but deliver babies lol), worked 12 hours a week last term, and this term I took educational leave (so they keep my job on hold as long as I'm full-time student). Great thing about RN so many flexible options with work and school. With working 12 hours a week, it was still a decent paycheck to help with bills. I would work weekends a lot not to use daycare (work 2 12s a weekend and be off for two weeks). My mom in law comes once a week for a study day so DD is only in daycare 3 days a week which isn't too bad. You will find a balance!!! You will also probably find yourself to becoming a better midwife now that you are a mom. I know my practice has changed since becoming a mom myself. I get it more!

Thanks! Any possible schooling or career change is a couple years down the road for me, but I may have some questions once I start trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up! (Or when my kids are in school.)

dp21 I definitely think becoming a mom has changed my views on pregnancy and birth and will ultimately make me a better practitioner. I also think having IF will have a huge impact on my ability to be an empathetic provider, and to help women having trouble conceiving or experiencing loss. I even think my less-than-optimal birth experience (failed induction resulting in a CS, crashing platelet count, and terrible reaction to the anesthesia) has really opened my eyes to the realities of childbirth in a less sunshine-and-roses lens than midwifery programs sometimes paint it.
That being said, I would rather have conceived right away, had a beautiful spontaneous med-free vaginal delivery, and been a less good provider. LOL
I'm a SAHP, but I used to manage group homes for adults with developmental disabilities and I absolutely loved it. If I could I would go back in a heartbeat.
My dream job would be in the same line of work. Maybe a director. I liked being in the home with the clients, though. I just didn't like the pay. That or an LCSW. I think I'm a good listener and could make a pretty good therapist.
