annbuhdan rocking to sleep is hit and miss when it comes to transferring to the crib. If he wakes when I try to put him down, he flips out, arches his back, and screams. Much like trying to put him down drowsy. Yet at bedtime, I put him down drowsy and he's as happy as can be while he drifts off to sleep.
I can try shorter wake times tomorrow.
With DD1 I would sometimes grab a book or my phone and just hold her for the whole nap. It was a great excuse to just relax and snuggle a warm sleeping baby. 😊
I've considered this, but his naps are the only chances I have for pumping.
When he does finally get to sleep, I have about 30-40 min.
When do you introduce lovies? E sleeps in a halo sleep sack that has these wings that wrap around his tummy (it was a swaddle transition, but since his arms are fully out it's safe - not that he's rolling...) and when he's self soothing he often pulls at the wings and rubs the fleece on his face. Seems like he would be comforted by a blanket or something. I know there are breathable ones, but I've also heard that nothing should go in the crib before 1.
I (ok, my mom) cut up 1 a&a swaddle blanket into 9 mini blankies. I have a couple of them in the crib. So, he can hold one but it isn't big enough to fold up a lot and get thick. They are pretty breathable. I also have about 10 pacifiers in there. I check before we go to sleep to make sure they aren't near his head.
hannahbear I keep a lovie in the crib and sometimes an a&a swaddle blanket during naps. It's a super light blanket that he likes to play with. I take it out at night, but leave the lovie. He can pull things off his face, so I'm not too concerned.
I so hope it's not that his wake time is too long. He got to the point where I was putting him down for a nap every hour to hour fifteen and he was a monster. When I transitioned him from 4 to 3 naps, he was perfect for 2 weeks. I almost wonder if he does need a longer wake time and 2 naps. But he's such a bear after an hour and a half.
Ds2's awake time varies so much. Some days he falls asleep after 1 hr (even after sleeping 12 hrs at night!). Other days it's 3 hrs. Today he took 3 10 minute naps (we were out and about) before noon.
You could try sticking him in the crib before you notice any signs of being tired and just see what happens. If it's already not great, play around with the schedule in various ways to see if you find something that works. Good luck!
pbandjelly - I don't know what the daycare miracle workers do (how does she nap in that room?!), but at home we put her in the swing. We always have, though, and we only use it for naps so she associates swing with nap.
I'm working on transitioning her to crib naps.
My baby has a similar pattern in that she's cranky and tired for awhile before taking a nap. Her usual cycle is: happy, hungry, playful, crabby, sleepy, napping. Once she passes into crabby, I bring her up to the couch with me. She lays there with a pacifer and toy right next to my leg. It's quieter and calmer than all her toys on the floor but still "in the action." After maybe 15-20 min, I move her to the swing while still awake.
I don't know if this is helpful for you, but there it is.
Oh, she has NO schedule. Some days she naps 3 times; some days it's five times. I'm letting her call the shots. If we have to go somewhere, I do it after a nap and some food.
redhead610 That is helpful to know, I will try that, thank you.
I'm such a schedule-oriented person that this variability is killing me.
This is how I was with ds1. He was always a terrible sleeper (and still isn't that great). And all I wanted was a steady schedule. But, with ds2, he's had to adapt to ds2's schedule - lots of car rides for preschool, story time, ds2's weekly PT, etc. So sometimes I just take what I can get because it's not like we can just be late for school. And if his first nap is crap, I hope for a better 2nd one. And then a 3rd if needed. And sometimes an early bed time.
I also love schedules so I totally understand how frustrating it can be.

Oh and 1 more - do car naps work? With ds1 I would totally drive around unnecessarily if he was so cranky and not napping. Sometimes I'd bring a magazine and hang out in a parking lot for awhile. Not a long term solution by any means, but gave me a little peace and quiet.

Unfortunately not as much anymore. He loves to look out the windows.

Neither of my kids had a nap schedule. DD finally developed one around 1 when she transitioned to one nap. We let DS nap in the swing. It works. I haven't figured out crib naps and frankly this stage I pick asleep. DD used to nap on us, but will now take naps in the crib. So I know I didn't break her.

Yeah, we're also on team nap wherever. We'll do them in her bed, but also in the carseat, on us, or on the couch in her boppy pillow next to me. She's not a great napper (even at daycare) and likes to do 30 minute naps. We still mostly do 4 naps because she seems tired and the 30 minutes seems to recharge her.

DD is also a terrible napper, but she's always been this way. I spend so much time trying to teach her to fall asleep on her own in her crib and everytime we make progress it only lasts a few days and then she reverts back. She is in a difficult phase right now where it takes forever to get her to sleep, I'm spending about an hour getting her down and she never naps longer than 30-40 min.
She won't rock to sleep, she rarely nurses to sleep, she won't sleep on me anymore. The pacifier helps, but she generally won't take it. She'll sleep in the car unless there's traffic or she's really tired in which case she screams as hard as she can the whole time instead. Plus she wakes up when we stop moving. She will sleep in the ergo or the stroller as long as I keep moving but it still takes her about 30 min to fall asleep.
Weekends are so much better because DH is home and he has some sort of magic way to get her to sleep that I can't seem to duplicate.
It's gotten to the point I don't really like being at home with her. I find DD so much happier and easier to deal with when we are out of the house.
We are having a big snowstorm here today. DH is working from home and we are upstairs making Valentines. Later I think DH will head outside with ds1 - we'll see how well he can walk in it since we are already at about a foot!
How do I get DD to lay back in the stroller? Since the seat leans back slightly, she won't lay her head against the seat and spends the whole time trying to sit completely upright and ends up awkwardly hunched over.

IDK. Any time DD is awake and reclined or laying down she is trying to sit up. Girl has abs.
I have decided to implement Quiet Crib Time. After their morning feeding I changed them and put them in their cribs with some toys. Then I got myself coffee and breakfast! M is not thrilled and cries every 5 minutes or so but settles when I go pop in his pacifier and shake his rattle. I'm hoping they will learn that the first hour of the day is Quiet Crib Time ie Mommy Breakfast and Coffee time!
I do that, bocaburger! I get her up, changed, and dressed. Then, it's my turn. She goes in her crib with some toys while I do what I need to do. She gets it and waits patiently for her bottle. I hope it goes well for you!!
I'm heading home from my work trip. Waiting to board. I'm so nervous, my belly hurts so bad
(Hugs). How was the trip?
Trip was fantastic- flight home was terrible. There was an insane amount of bad turbulence at take off and landing. Bad wind. They told us it was going to be really bad at descent. They wouldn't let me keep my Dunkin cup because it could be dangerous! There was a couple holding a baby who looked like he was about the same age as our babes and I was terrified for them. So happy to be home!

I love this! I've had to resort to setting my alarm and getting up early to do this. Kiddo caught on and is now getting up earlier too. I may have to steal your idea.

Yeah, the weather yesterday was SO WINDY. I went home around 6:30pm last night and I was getting blown all over Center City. Today is so much calmer!
We landed in Philly is a snowstorm a few times now. The last time I saw a man carry his two year old to baggage claim then sit quietly with her while she threw up. Poor kid didn't handle all the nasty turbulence well.

Ughhh that sounds rough! Glad the trip was good though! How was it being away from the baby?

Strange!! You would think I'd rest up. Nope. My group parties hard. Drinking all night every night is exhausting lol
