This past Sunday we went to our Pinewood Derby at our Cub Scout Pack meeting and we placed 2nd Place in the Wolf Den. DS was so proud that he wore his medal for the rest of the night. He wanted to wear his medal to school but I said no and told him I would write it on his daily report to share the good news with his IEP team.
The past few mornings, DS was able to grab clothes from the hangers and got himself dressed without me telling him to do it. Before, DS was too short to get the clothes of the hangers and I had to get them for him.
DS was teasing our cat causing the cat to cry before the school bus came. DH told him to stop bothering the cat from our computer desk. DS said put your headphones on, daddy.
Char finally passed her swim test at the Y. She should have been able to pass 2 or 3 years ago, but they are super strict and she gets choked up by the fact that it's a test. She usually does freestyle and either A) lifts her head out in the middle to breathe and does a little dog paddle while breathing, which they fail or B) breathes on the right and manages not to get her left hand out of the water on one stroke. They are so strict, the hand must exit the water on every single stroke or they fail. Well she decided to try breast stroke and made it fine! She won't take her wrist band off lol.
DS is breezing though his speech, so they added another area to work on in the IEP (letter F). We are making progress on regulating his emotions- still have a little ways to go. I think he is a bit behind his peers, but it is because he is a highly sensitive guy. Despite all the classes gymnastic and now skiing, and he has gained a lot of coordination, but still is clumsy.
ETA- Gymnastics did wonders, and maybe I should re-enroll him. I won't do DD anymore though cause sitting there for 2 hours is not happening anymore- sorry DD.
mamaturtle, it's that time of year! DS also placed 2nd in his den last weekend, and 2nd overall, with almost 100 cars! He was so proud, and so patient sitting through all those runs (took 3 hours for everyone to race!)
DS handled a snark in a mature fashion. His BF was over and it was past time for him to have his ADHD stimulant. I called for him to come see me in the kitchen. BF is over a lot, and has apparently figured out that DS takes meds at a certain time. BF follows DS into the kitchen taunting him (right in front of me!) "Is it time for your chill pill?!" The look on DS's face- ugh, he looked so embarrassed. I looked at BF and said, no he just needs some water. BF walked away. When he wasn't looking, I slipped DS his pill and he quickly took it. He looked straight at me and said gratefully "Thanks Mom!" I don't know if that's a brag, but the whole exchange made me feel better about DS holding his own. I think it's possible DS has told his friend that he takes meds to "chill out"- I've never referred to his stimulant as a chill pill..
We did the United States space shuttle with blue windows (DS thinks all windows have to be blue).
He was cheering his car with "go rocket go!"
He was trying to convince the entire pack to vote for his car for "Best in Show" and we didn't get it. I rather we won 2nd in speed out of our den.
Woodworker (and creative type!) he is not! I keep asking DS each year and he wants nothing but to be the fastest. We did a simple wedge shape and printed off a rectangle "Yu Gi Oh" image (his current obsession) and used that as a decal/skin. I wanted to pour waterlox over it to make an extra smooth and shiny finish, but that proved to be too complicated. I found this new Modge Podge product called "Dimensional Magic"- it's basically super thick glue that dries completely clear and levels itself. It was perfect! His car was so freaking fast everyone gasped when it did it's three runs because it was yards ahead of everyone else.
Best style went to the kid (dad?) who made a coffin with lid on hinges that held a Princess Leia figurine. The Packmaster made a joke about whether we should race it open casket or not!
My class that has been my most trying behviorally has finally settled in. It took an entire semester of them testing me. This week was so awesome. I could actually see that they finally believe that I am not quitting on them. It has never taken so long for a group before.

DS has made it through two birthday parties recently without a sensory meltdown. He had a good time and played well with others. I was hovering today but probably should have held back more.
DH and I found a compromise. Dance at the daycare for DD- starts now. Gymnastics for DS starts in the beginning of March, I think. I still need to enroll him- better do that I guess.
