So I know there are quite a few tax professionals here.
We submitted our 2017 taxes without including DS's preschool tuition because the preschool said we couldn't claim it since it's only part time and not necessary care for a working parent.
Today I was on a Facebook group and they mentioned that you can legally deduct preschool tuition and referenced the IRS website and intuit as saying they are tax deductible.
How difficult would it be to amend a return at this point? Would it raise red flags on our return? I'm not sure the school will be forthcoming with a tax id number so I'm not sure I could file for it anyways.

The IRS considers preschool to be tax deductible in most cases. Your center or school should provide you with an annual statement. Ask for the EIN if it's not on the statement. Obviously each tax situation is different, and I don't know your whole story. Generally preschool is deductible though.
And amending your return doesn't instantly put you on the IRS's radar. People amend all the time - it's not unique. As long as you have support, you're fine. Just be sure to keep copies of your returns and the support for at least five years.
Also, you probably have to file the amended by paper so it can take the IRS a loooong time to process your refund, like up to 6+ months. Be prepared for a wait.
