Cake is like the last thing I run out of. I usually order or make so much that I'm begging people to take it home with them and I have no intentions of ever changing.
We recently went to a birthday party for a preschool classmate of DS where they served pizza and cake and offered neither to the parents, despite the fact that there was at least 2 untouched pizzas and lots of cake left. I actually didn't even notice until DH pointed it out. He was VERY sad he didn't get a piece of that cake.

helenahhandbasket, not cool! We had DD's party on Saturday. 3 parents stayed, and I ended up ordering an extra pizza just to make sure there was enough food for kids and adults. And we had enough cake for adults.

This is semi-related, but DD got invited to her preschool classmates birthday party. I already RSVP'd yes for her. Then the mom sent an email to everyone saying that parents are welcome too as well as any siblings that want to come. Do I RSVP again since I'll be attending as the parent? I had just assumed that parents were going since DD is 3 and I've never met any of the parents of the kids in her class. Since I'm asking the question, I should probably just send a follow up RSVP.

Just send a follow up. She probably had a bunch of people ask if they could bring sins or if they were going to stay etc.
Honestly if you RSVP at all you are 5 steps ahead of almost anyone I know. Except me; I always try to RSVP. Still forget occasionally.
DD's first K party we went to was like this. Parents had to buy your own pizza and only cake for the kids. Then the slices for the kids were 2"x2" piece! The mom had a 1/2 sheet cake she was boxing up to take home! I was annoyed and we left early so we could eat.
Busy pizza/arcade/mini golf/laser tag/bowling alley isn't someplace I would be comfortable dropping my 5 year old off to. I counted 12 other b-day parties going on that Friday night. There was a 12 year old party and the mom was taking drink orders for the other moms that were staying. I really wanted to go hang with that party.
Not enough cake is an injustice lol. Not having enough food at a party is considered a faux paus in my family and my mom or grandma would die! Which is why I always order way too much of everything, especially cake. Plus, who doesn't love leftover cake for breakfast?
ETA: helenahhandbasket, I think your DD is around DS's age and I don't leave him at parties yet either. I've only been to one party where parents did that and it was a party at their house, not a busy venue.
