I feel like Lord Disick poke bowl feelings are kind of like the feelings I've seen regarding pho.
Mainstream cooking magazines and media are lauding them as hip and non-vietnamese chefs are making non-traditional recipes and calling it pho, like they invented the whole idea.
I don't know, guys. My sis and I have a strained relationship- we used to be close, but things have been tense for a few years. I attributed a lot of the tension to what I perceive as depression.
So, one day, we're talking and she tells me about this amazing church and finding these great people and making friends, and I think it sounds awesome.
Now every time I talk to her (which is about 4xyear), the shit just sounds weirder and weirder. She's never told me that she thinks I'm going to hell, but she seems to believe that she has found the one true gospel. And when our dad was dying, she talked a lot about trying to convert him before he died so that he wouldn't end up in hell.

This day has been insane. I didn't pack a lunch and was going to buy something. But since I'm on lunch now and leaving 15 minutes after my lunch, I'm just going to cook when I get home. I have to buy cooking ingredients when I get off though. I know several other things will just 'fall' into the basket. 🙄

I mean, she does think you're going to hell. Like, just get clear about that.

I read it more as her saying poke is traditional, a poke bowl is not. Which I disagree with, but she is married to a Hawaiian man, so I will defer to her. (And just disagree in my head.)
@thisbitch, how does your sister feel about the weapons in church? Is she planning on getting a concealed carry permit?
I'm honestly not sure. Our conversations the past couple of years have been very limited. I do know that she recently took shooting lessons- she said it was to get over her fear of guns. Since then, she has been going with friends to the shooting range, but as far as I know, she doesn't have a gun.
She has mentioned the guns in church thing and I asked about that- she said it was because of threats against the pastor. I asked about the threats against the pastor and her answer is that people threaten him because he preaches the "true gospel", but when I ask about the true gospel, she isn't able to elaborate.
I found a dress for the work cocktail thing next weekend. I don't know why I don't just start at Express to save myself the time and preserve my self esteem.
Now I just need shoes and maybe, possibly some shapewear.
I think of fusion cooking a bit like I think of the pregnant Swedish Jamaican Dancehall queen.
One needs to spend the appropriate amount of time learning about and respecting the culture one is borrowing. And then one needs to loudly and proudly proclaim the originators when one becomes an innovator.
Poke is new on the mainland as a really cultish food thing, but it's been a food in Hawaii for a very very long time.
I just tried it for the first time at a Luau there last week. Delicious! I need to look in more detail into the differences between sashimi, poke, and ceviche. I'll eat all of them.
If you like those, add poisson cru to the list. It's yummy!
