It's freezing here again. I'm so gonna miss being outside everyday. We started swim classes today and she loved it. I loved the two hour nap that followed.
Re: new baby food ideas. We are starting to move into some sauces and more flavorful food like roast or seasoned chicken. I bought too many avocados this week so we are trying this healthylittlefoodies.com/avocado-spinach-spaghetti/
The weather has been really weird. Snowing a ton and then sunny later in the day. Snow melts. Repeat. Decent flooding in surrounding areas because of this.
It's been so warm here - 60s and 70s. Our 2 feet of snow is mostly gone. Yesterday we went to a "winterfest" where they couldn't have several of the planned events, and there were sooo many people. Quite a few people were in shorts and short sleeves, and some of the food vendors had run out of food. Then we went to opening day of a local ice cream place and it was also ridiculously packed.
Gonna try to get grocery shopping done today because the kids and I have a busy week this week.
We sort of blw - I have spoon fed him some because he smashes everything with his hands - so he eats everything. I made beef stew this week and he ate all the components - peas, corn, carrot, potato, and the beef. We discovered his pincer grip is good enough to get things to his mouth so I've started giving him smaller things like peas, blueberries, Cheerios. And giving him small pieces of food like sweet potato, rather than fry shapes typical of blw, has solved our smashing everything issue. I make him oatmeal for breakfast pretty often and now roll that into little balls he can pick up.
Busy weekend here. DS1 had a birthday party for a school friend and it was adorable. He had a blast.
In typical fashion B was up every 90 minutes last night and there isn't enough coffee in the world. I went out last night so H was on his own at bedtime. B screamed for 2 hours and didn't go to sleep until 9, which is why the whole night was screwed.
its been a great and not great end of the month lol We started a budget this month and managed to save 973$ !!! I never thought this would be possible, we are always pay check to pay check so it feels great and is proof that we were just spending ridiculous money on nothing lol. AND Flint has slept through the night the past 3 nights in a row! I wish I could say it was something we did lol.
On a crappier note I've been really struggling with anxiety as of late. I had to bail on a conference seminar part way through this week and basically hide in an empty room to get a hold of myself. ugh.

I have been working 50 hour weeks and it doesn't look like that will stop for awhile... I like the extra money but I am really not liking that I have to pick up the slack because my counterpart doesn't do any work...
I am really hoping we can make it work for a vacation next month. We all need it. We have all been struggling. L has his first karate lesson tonight and I am hoping that does some good for him.

Ray my anxiety has been really high lately and I know I am toeing the line of a breakdown... I am really hoping I can make it to my vacation at the end of the month before that happens so that I can get some time to decompress.

My kid loves purees. If they are smooth he eats and eats them. I have been trying to give him some thinker stuff sweet potatoes and alvacodo mashed but he gags like crazy and then will spit it all back out sometimes with additional milk too. I have given him some blw style foods he mainly just mashes them. I don't think there is any real eating going on. I may try again though because he is beginning to bring more things to his mouth to chew on. I feel like i am being lazy because I hate pureeing food...lets get on to eating regular food already haha
jewelsofthenile for solid foods we do a lot of those puree pouches with a mix of some blw. I'll set Sam up in his high chair and put a variety of items on the tray for him to play around with/attempt to get into his mouth. He loves those yogurt melts, tiny pieces of meatball, bread, pancakes, noodles, smashed black beans, big pieces of banana. I try to do either things he can get a good grip on to gnaw away at or tiny bite-sized things he can practice his pincher grasp with.

My baby is a big time smasher, but a big benefit of blw is if they do get any to their mouth, they eventually learn to chew. Since you've already been doing purees and he swallows without chewing, maybe it won't work as well. On the other hand if he's chewing on other things, you could try some things that are big enough and firm enough that he doesn't just smash it immediately. My guy is constantly teething, so he's enjoyed nomming on a mini bagel. He does get pieces of it off eventually, and sometimes there's gagging as he figures out how to work it around in his mouth. I'm pretty chill about the gagging at this point, but I get that it can be a heart-pounding experience.

I actually don't really have issue with the gagging as he has always been a gagger. He has gagged himself with his own thumb. It more that he ends up spitting up everything he has swallowed. I think I am gonna get a few more things he can naw on though just to see how he does with that and make another batch of purees until he can better handle thick stuff. I kind of really dislike this stage of eating lol.
It should be illegal to cut two teeth in one week. Poor baby girl is a hot mess.
Raysarcaztic10 I hope you both start feeling better soon.
It's no better when it's back to back weeks! Ds cut a top tooth 2 weeks ago and another last week. Now it seems tooth #5 is near - not cutting yet but definitely visible and bothering him. Constant hot mess over here.
koritto, my older son got 6 teeth in one week when he was a baby. It was awful, but honestly, I'm more of a rip the bandaid off type of person. I'd rather have 1 really crappy week than have teething last forever. Hope your daughter is feeling better!
Glad the weight check went decently comicSans. We have ours next week, and I'm very nervous.

So I gave DS some bread with peanut butter on it last night. He did pretty well I think. He managed to eat some of it without gagging or spitting up and i think really enjoyed nawing on it. thanks comicSans and I am happy your weight check went well!

I was nervous too. Honestly, I would have liked more gain - he put on 11 ounces - but pedi is just happy he is gaining. She told me her daughter was 5th percentile into her teenage years, and still isn't someone who prioritizes eating.
Is your pedi looking for a certain amount of gain, or maintaining his curve? Any idea what next steps are if gain isn't satisfactory? I honestly don't know what would have been next for us if there were an issue.

I don't actually know what my ped is looking for. She's a little concerned bc he has fallen off his chart at almost every single appointment. Eating isn't his problem - he is distracted while nursing at times, but when he's eating when he's actually hungry, he's a champ. And he's eating a ton of solids. He stuffs his face at every meal, and I know he's eating food bc his poops are completely solid. So I really don't know much more that I can do. Maybe supplement with a bottle? Seems unnecessary bc my supply is great, but we will see. I've actually never personally given him a bottle so I have no clue how that would go. Trying not to worry about it though until next week when I see his weight.
Hopefully your son continues to put on weight so you can put this concern behind you!

Sounds so much like my baby. I bet you'll be fine, but it sort of depends on the ped's outlook I suppose. We don't do bottles either, so while I was open to supplementing, not really possible. My obsessive googling led me to conclude that adding calories through solids is the best approach at this point. Focusing on some good fats, iron of course, and adding a little coconut oil here and there, as long as eating isn't interfering with breast milk intake.
