Can we talk about getting teeth? I'm just not sure what is normal and hate to make a dr appt during flu season if it's not necessary.
DS has 8 teeth at 21 months (4 top and 4 bottom all in front). Every other kid we know around his age has at least 12 teeth or more including their 1 year molars. Is this something you think he needs to see a dr or dentist about? Anyone else's kid late to get teeth? I can ask at his 2-yr ped appt but that's not for a few months.
I'd either just wait it out and ask at the 2 year appointment, or I'd make an appointment with a pediatric dentist. They may have more insight to what's going on.
Ro was pretty late getting any teeth at all, so I looked up baby teeth charts, and there's quite a big age range for some of them. I wouldn't worry too much. FWIW, my doctor told me LO's are supposed to start going to the dentist when they're a year old, so maybe that wouldn't be a bad idea for you?

My FIL was a dental professor and I asked him about DD being late to the teething game (2 at 12 months, at almost 17 months and she just got 7 and 8 last week. Only one of those is a molar). He said many dentists believe late teething is actually better, as the jaw is more mature when the teeth erupt. And, our pedi said they only get concerned if LO makes it to the 18 month appointment without ANY teeth. So, I would say things are just fine if you are at 8 with a few months to go until 2.

This! Such a wide range for normal ages to get teeth. Mine teethed really early, but if they didn't get their first tooth until later then that's pretty normal. Also, I think it says they should have all their baby teeth by 3.
But a year? Our dentist suggested 3. I don't know how much success they'd have doing anything in a one year old's mouth.

I wouldn't worry dd had 1 tooth at 12 months and 4 teeth at 20 months she's still getting them. Also it's a waste unless your kid has a problem to take them to the dentist before 2.5 as long as you brush well. All they do is brush dd teeth with a toothbrush and have her swish some fluoride. Our pedi said it's not worth it.

Great thanks everyone! Yeah I wanna say I had heard dentist when they are 2-3. I feel bad that he loves all food so much but has a hard time chewing it still haha. Suppose I'll be cutting it small for awhile longer.
