Wednesday morning we had a NST and my midwife suggested a membrane sweep, since she wanted to avoid an induction if possible. Check, done! The rest of the day I felt crampy and had some mucous and spotting, but no regular contractions.
I woke up Thursday and wasn't having any contractions - I cried into my morning tea and figured I would be the one person in the world who was actually pregnant forever. Around 10:00, though, I started to have timeable contractions, though they weren't painful, and were very irregular. They would slow down if I sat, and pick up if I walked, so I was terrified to rest too long. My friend suggested pumping a little bit to help things along.
This continued until around 5:30/6:00, when my in-laws came over unexpectedly. I felt weird laboring with them there, so I hid in the bathroom. I think they scared the contractions away temporarily (lol) because they started to slow down and I told H that I thought things were fizzling out. He got them to leave, and I came out to help with dinner. When I sat down to eat (around 6:45/7:00), I started having much more painful contractions, closer together. I called the hospital when they were 45 seconds long and 3-4 minutes apart, because I was worried about making the 40 minute hospital drive. But they informed me I must wait until the contractions were 1 minute long for an hour.
So we put F to bed, I labored for a little while in the tub, and my contractions started to be 2-3 minutes apart pretty regularly, but still only lasting about 50 seconds. I started to feel nauseous, though, and after texting my nurse friend, I decided we should go in anyway and risk being sent home. I remembered feeling nauseous with transition when I was in labor with my first. My in-laws came back and we left for the hospital around 10:50.
During the ride I started to have 2 contractions with only 1:30 seconds between them, and then a space of 3:00. It was a long car ride. Every bump was excruciating. We got into a room to be checked at the hospital around 11:30, and I was 8cm. We walked down the hall to a labor room, and I had to puke and pee. Which I did at the same time, thanks to those lovely blue bags.
When they got me up on the delivery bed, they blew a couple veins before they finally got an IV in, and by then they could see my membranes coming out on their own. The midwife came in and broke my water, I felt the urge to push, which I did, but it was so painful, they had to calm me down a bit before I could do it effectively. Looking back, I didn't like the position I was in (flat on my back). With DS I was lying on my side, and it was actually much easier to push him out (even though he was bigger).
Anyways, she was out in 3 pushes (at 12:18), when they immediately ran over and grabbed her and suctioned her because there was meconium in her fluid. They also wanted to check her blood sugars several times right away and throughout the night because they said she looked as if she had been losing weight the last several days of being in the womb. Apparently being overdue didn't agree with her 😕
She's fine, now, though! She is such a little peanut, going home at 6 lbs. I had a first degree laceration on my labia (😮), which horrified me when I heard the midwife describe it to the OB on call, but the nurse assures me it doesn't look too bad. Let's hope she's right!
And that was really long, so here are some pictures:
