Ultrasound and early (FIsH) amnio results confirmed what we really already knew, that the baby has trisomy 13 and there is at the very least a significant (and probably even on its own lethal) heart malformation and fluid already building up around the heart, but signs of several other developmental problems starting too. So, very sadly (but at this point not surprisingly), I'm out. D&E tomorrow. Very sad, but the alternatives at this point would be even worse.
At least I've been lucky that the MFM we saw for the amnio and last ultrasound was really really good. He explained things well and did not seem at all rushed like doctors usually do and was really accommodating. Like, I had asked to have as much information as possible so they had the ultrasound tech explain everything she was looking at, even problems, as she went along which was so much better than that awful silence that just leaves you wondering and imagining. And actually even when I called my insurance to check on coverage for the termination, I got the nicest, most helpful and supportive person I've ever talked to on an insurance phone call. Which helped a lot.
Also, I really hope none of you have to have an amniocentesis done because nowadays they only get done after concerning screening results so then there's all the stress and worry with that, but, if you do - I have to say that it was not anywhere near as horrible as I thought it would be. Really not too bad.
You all look great in your bump photos, and I wish you all the best over the next 5-6 months of your pregnancy! It was nice to have "met" all of you.
