But I kind of expected it would be higher. Since healthcare is $$$$$$$$$. So I'm glad it's not higher!
Me too! I thought it could have been higher, so that's a plus! I have an idea of our out of pocket expense and its MUCH lower and totally manageable, thank goodness!

Our bills (so far) total $40k. Of that we have to pay $7k. Bye bye savings... Oh and my 12 week mat leave is unpaid too. Excuse me while I go cry in a corner.
I just called the insurance company to see about getting a pump, and they gave me a list of in-network medical suppliers and told me to call one for my pump. How do I decide which one to call? Do they all provide the same pump? H wants me to call all of them and see what they say. Um, not what I wanted to do with naptime? I hate calling people.
I also hate calling people #antisocial
I went to the edge park medical supply website (which I understand is utilized by most insurances?) and input my insurance number and info. It gave me a long list of pumps that would be covered under my insurance and I picked one. I input my address and my doctor info and I literally received the pump 3 days later. Did not pick up the phone once lol.
SWEET! That is one of my options, so I'll definitely check it out! Thanks!

Yeah... my hospital bill was 30k and I had a vaginal delivery, no NICU.
Of that, I only had to pay $800 because I have really excellent insurance through H's job. Also, that hospital bill put me at my yearly maximum, so now any time I see any doctor, I don't even have to pay a copay.
I had 3/12 weeks of maternity paid and I used an additional week of vacation, so it's going to end up being 8 weeks unpaid. As sad as that is, I'm so much better off than most.
I think of the women who make too much money to get government subsidies but not enough that they can afford unpaid leave... and I can't imagine going back to work at 2 weeks. I was still using a squirt bottle in the bathroom at that point!
Sabine has been sleeping pretty much all day, so I expected her to be awake this evening. Nope. Fed her @ 9:30 and passed right back out. I'm scared for what this night/ morning holds.
My 1hr nap should totally be enough to get me through, right?

I'm pissed at DH. He tried to feed R at 10:30 and he wouldn't wake up to feed so DH said he would get him when he cried in a couple of hours.
Guess who got that feeding? Yep, me once again. This happened last night as well when he said he would take a feeding then didn't. I have no problem taking nighttime feedings, just don't say you are going to then don't, especially when you have commented many times throughout the night how I was struggling to stay awake/do what needed to get done for tomorrow.

So baby has been down since 9:30pm. Guess who has been up for the last 2.5 hours even though the baby has been asleep? Yours truly.
My boobs hurt and the pain woke me up. Severe throbbing and stabbing pain. I EP because BF was painful and E wasn't gaining weight.
When I pump, the second I flip the switch, it HURTS. And then it sometimes gets numb over the course of pumping, or at least less painful. Sometimes it doesn't. But the throbbing/stabbing pain happens whether I'm pumping, have recently pumped, or not. It's random.
I am so frustrated. Like, yes, I knew having a baby would take a toll on my body, but FFS. When does it end? I'm 6.5 weeks in and my nipples are ALWAYS erect. Extracting milk is always uncomfortable at best and excruciating at worst. As a new mother, sleep is coveted and so far tonight I've lost 2.5 hours to breast pain. I took 800 mg of Motrin. Still in pain. I need to hunt down my heating pad and see if that will help. At this point I'm ready to walk into the emergency room and say, "cut them off. It's an emergency."
If I had any idea how much pain I'd be in, I would've formula fed from the start. How does no one tell you "breastfeeding and pumping are two of the most painful things you'll ever do...labor hurts, but it's one day. Look forward to many more weeks of pain."
Now I'm balls deep in this and thinking "well, if I stop pumping completely, is that just trading one problem for another with weaning?"
I'm tired and pissed that I'm missing out on a 6+ hour sleep stretch because my body fucking sucks.
loves2shop4shoes- I'm pretty sure you've done this already but do you know if your flanges are the right size? Pumping shouldn't be that painful it's no walk in the park but not to the level you are at. Warm shower if you can't find the heating pads.

loves2shop4shoes I second what @jack605 said. I EP and, while definitely not comfortable, it does not just the way you're describing. I will say it took several weeks and tries until I was at the right size for the flanges. According to my LC, I have "deceptively large" nipples. On my own I never would have guessed I'd need a size XL flange, but eventually that's what I ended up at. In addition to being more comfortable it increased my output by a few ounces a day. It even took the pro multiple times watching me pump to get me to the right size. So, even if you've been seen pumping once by an LC I'd suggest doing it again.

My child is still sleeping like shit. We get a good night every 3-4 days. Last night she slept 8:30-11:30; 12-2, 2:30-3:30 and from 4 on we played the where should she sleep game. We tried RNP, dockatot, and on her belly in the bassinet. She ended up on my chest 5:30-8 and I woke up with a stiff neck. She's 7 weeks old today
We took a walk to the mailbox down the street in the baby carrier. It worked well but it's colder out than I thought it was. She was warm in my coat (I put it around us both) but my hands were freezing on the walk back!
Eeek oldbaylover1024!! Did you pass out after receiving that statement? Oh my word.
notagoddess, I wouldn't picture S crying all day at daycare. I mean, so much changes with babies in such a short time. However, if you want to quit your job for other reasons - go for it! I remember you weren't happy there before. Maybe you can look for something else now that you've had some experience in your field? Did I miss how your OB appointment went yesterday? Hope everything was ok!
Thanks for asking! My OB said it was fine to wait until my 6-week appointment to see him, which is tomorrow. I'm still having a lot of pain in the incision but it doesn't seem like an infection. I guess I'll find out what's going on tomorrow.
And yes I don't like my job. I'm new working in a small field so quitting after working only a few months would jeopardize my ability to find a job in the future. I think I will give it a trial of 3 months and reevaluate at that time.

One thing I like about babywearing is baby gets your body heat! What kind of carrier are you using?

Right now I'm wearing a k'tan. I just ordered a new wrap yesterday that's really soft and I'll actually get to wrap it. I'll probably still use the k'tan a lot now because it's so easy, but I'll be able to use the other wrap once she's a bit bigger. And I also have an Ergo with the infant insert. It's OK but I don't love it. I think once she gets bigger and I can back carry I'm going to like it a lot better. And if we're out and about in the sun when I want to use the head cover.

I feel the same about my Lillebaby carrier. It's OK but not that comfy for a little baby, but I'm sure it will be great when she's older. I've been using a rented wrap for the past 2 weeks and I love it. I'm getting my own for my birthday on Saturday

I love my lillebaby, so I hope you end up liking it! It's definitely a little nicer to use once baby is a bit older, but I did use it quite a bit when DS was tiny because he was too small for my ktan.
