H's first boob free night went well. He only woke up once, cried hysterically for about 10 minutes when he realized I wasn't going to feed him, then passed back out. He was mildly pissed again this morning when he woke up but was easily distracted by breakfast. Meanwhile, I'm super engorged...but only on one side. I had to choose my work clothes very carefully to disguise my lopsided boobs.
Also I forgot my Fitbit at home! 😡 I'm irritated that I'm going to lose my first place spot in the step challenge.
alpies I get super lopsided when I get engorged too. At the end of C's nursing time he only nursed on one side. For 6+ months. 🙈 Ridiculous. I'm glad the boob free time is going smoothly for you! Also, I'm annoyed my Fitbit doesn't count spin class. That's the majority of my working out! Boo.

leahks77, can you put it in your sock or tie it tightly around your shoelaces maybe? I have to put mine in my pocket when I go for a walk pushing the stroller or it doesn't count... and if your Fitbit doesn't count it, did you even work out!?!
I keep forgetting to put mine on the in the morning. Not that it matters, my steps are still abysmal lately. I can't wait for nicer weather.

I bought a bag of mini cadbury eggs because everyone talks about them but I don't think I've ever had them. Why is the inside so delicious but the outside feels like you're rubbing terra-cotta pots together? It gives me goosebumps.
We had X's appt this morning. The urologist said he can feel both testicles and they're actually just retracted, not undescended. So we'll do yearly monitoring for a few years, but he thinks it will sort itself out and didn't recommend surgery! Woohoo! I'm so surprised. I think our pedi could have done a better job at explaining that and maybe saved us some worry and a hefty copay. Hmph.

I like to suck on the Cadbury eggs. I'm glad the appt went well. I hope it all resolves without any intervention.

Which Fitbit do you have? It's been a while since I used my charge hr but I'm pretty sure you can tell it you're doing a different kind of exercise and it should count. Otherwise I agree with attaching it to your shoe or ankle.

I have the Alta HR. One of the things it counts is cycling but on pavement only (uses GPS). I can input exercise and it adds to my active minutes but not my step count. I might tuck it in my sock... but I like the HR feature.
Hello! Work has been busy the last 2 days. Kids have been at MIL's but I think they'll go back to daycare tomorrow. Bleh. I'd love to keep them out the rest of the week to play it safe but that's also probably excessive and I don't want to tie MIL down all week. There is one little girl at daycare who stayed home today, she has a fever so daycare assumes possibly Influenza but everyone else seems to be ok and daycare provider and her family are ok so I guess it's time to go back. Hopefully nobody else will turn up with it, I think they would by now?
Anyway...I'm still reading up on Whole 30 and trying to get myself prepared and ready for it. I've made a lot of changes the last couple of days but am not fully started on it yet. I'd say I've been about 75% with it the last 2 days. I knew it was certain foods you could and couldn't eat, but I didn't realize it was so specific with how many meals (only 3 no snacking) and so strategic so you stay full between meals so I'm trying to get a handle on it all so I can set myself up for success and not fail miserably after a couple days.
chocolate the nice thing about the whole 30 is you're not restricted on portion size. I also think they say it's ok to snack for like the first week when you're getting used to it. Make sure you eat a lot of protein and plenty of veggies/fruit at each meal and you should be ok. If you want any suggestions on anything I have started to do whole30 a couple times and a couple of the other girls have done it as well.
I met my sister and handed B off to her. The drive was kind of crazy, it went from dark and rainy to bright and sunny all within the 1 1/2 hour drive there. I will say that after the last couple of weeks, SD and MN have the most boring landscape. At least the speed limit in SD is 80 on the interstate.
My sister told my niece about O this afternoon. She said that she was sad when she first told her but later tonight she was very, very sad and told my sister her heart is broken. Poor girl.

Poor girl. Those kids have been through a lot, too. I hope there's some peace in having their family back together.

They aren't back together quite yet. M and her husband won't be back to SF until Saturday it sounds like. B is back at my other sister's house. Funeral will be middle of next week.

chocolate, I wouldn't worry so much about the no snacking rule until you get started and learn how to make your main meals keep you full until time for the next one. If you have any whole30 questions, please feel free to ask. I've done it once very strict, another time more loosely, and am thinking of starting another in the next week or so.
I was totally like, I can do this. I like that you can still eat meat. So many meal plans are fish reliant and I'm not a fish eater. A friend suggested joining the fb group Keep Calm and Whole 30 On, so I did. It was then that I realized how strict some of the rules/recommendations are. They actually frown upon fruit because it can be a sugar replacement for people. So if you have fruit, only 2 servings and with your meals, not as snacks. They are pretty picky so maybe I need to quit reading the group so much and just give it a go on my own terms, just staying compliant with the foods I eat.
On Monday night I made a complaint supper and ate a ton. I felt like a really ate a lot and I was starving not even 2 hours later. So I'm going to have to play around with the fat content (per group suggestions) to help keep me full. Avocado is a huge one they suggest but they can give me gut aches so I need to find a way to stay full. I don't want to eat oils on everything all the time (another suggestion).
Like I said, maybe I need to quit reading their group, it's pretty strict, and just wing it.
chocolate the actual, true whole 30 is very strict. I always did my best when I did it, but if I had to use a non-compliant oil then I did, or whatever.

chocolate, I much preferred winging it to stressing myself out following the program exactly. Some people in those W30 groups can be a bit over the top. I ate a ton of fruit and still had great results. After realizing that compliant sausages and bacon were hard to find or stupid expensive, I resigned myself to finding the best options I could in those products and didn't stress that they had a small amount of added sugar. The main thing for me was making my best effort to stick to the rules and learning what I should be eating vs. just eating whatever I wanted. I think you just have to figure out your goals and reasons for wanting to try the program and adjust as needed. I wouldn't excuse scarfing down a bag of chips, but ignoring a tiny bit of sugar added to meat seems different to me.
I also have come up with a pretty hefty list of whole30 approved recipes that are not all fish oriented. If you want them, I'll be happy to try to figure out how to send to you.

chocolate, meant to add, even with trying to get enough protein and fats, I did often have the problem of feeling hungry between meals. I learned to live with it because I'm a bit in a crazy stage of being willing to do a lot to lose weight, but if you don't want to live with it, I say snack lightly and compliantly to ease your hunger and you'll still be in the spirit of the program and see results.

This is exactly where my thinking is at. Also, in my town finding the approved meats is tough. We don't have approved bacon or sausage. I did find the mayo for $10.99 😱 and also got coconut aminos.
It's crazy to me that eating plantain chips in leu of potato chips is frowned upon because you're not getting to the root of the craving or problem. Who cares if I want chips, plaintain chips are just fine so why is it a big deal to substitute? I get that they want to totally change the cravings and habits but putting something healthy in it's place seems totally reasonable to me.
I have pinned a bunch of recipes on Pinterest, and suppers aren't really my concern for coming up with food options. We often eat meat and veggies. It's mainly breakfast and lunch that can be convenient. I'm used to bringing food to work with me for breakfast (like a microwaveable egg burrito or oatmeal) so when everyone is eating scrambled eggs and potatoes for breakfast that doesn't really work for me, I'm not making that before I go to work.

chocolate, I usually eat breakfast in the car so my meal must be easy and good for eating on the go. I did hard boiled eggs (made a weeks worth on sunday), fruit, and breakfast sausage or these paleo sausage balls (http://bravoforpaleo.com/2014/12/23/paleo-sausage-balls/) for breakfast when I was being more strict. For this next round I'll probably do smoothies, even though technically not W30 approved, because I need a break from eggs.
chocolate look up egg muffins. They are super easy to make and give you breakfast for a week. I usually ate 2 or 3 because they aren't huge. I suppose if I ate something else with them I could do less. Also, if you have a food processor Mayo is super easy to make yourself.

I bought the mayo and it's icky. I can't even stand the smell. I've choked it down a couple times but I think I'm done. I mainly wanted it to have with some deli meat rolled up with veggies. I'm used to eating sandwiches for lunch so I wanted to keep kind of similar and easy cold foods.
I did learn that mustard is complaint so I'll be mustard-ing all the things. I think I'm even going to use it as salad dressing tomorrow.

Look up dump ranch. You can use compliant Mayo with some spices and make it yourself. Also if your stores carry tessemaes dressing it's all compliant, they even have a ketchup.

Tonight I added space aliens Cajun spice to the mayo and a little franks, it still wasn't very tolerable.

Bummer. Did you get the primal kitchen Mayo? I bought it once and wasn't a fan. My homemade stuff was much better.

Yes, Primal Kitchen. That was a waste of 11 bucks. 👎🏻 I don't use mayo that often normally, not enough that I can't go without it. I just thought with all the rules it would be handy and add some flavor. I don't care about it enough to make my own.
I have eaten half a jar of almond butter in the last 3 days, so that purchase was worth it.
