Common sense, right? Not for my husband and myself apparently. Yup, I'm ku again. My two younger kids will only be like 30 seconds apart. I'm totally *that* mom that hoards children. Pray for me, J12!

Congrats girl! You totally are that mom that I get weepy for and think "How the hell does she do it?" You are going to rock this. Though my mother likes to remind me that once they were outnumbered...that's when things really changed.
We were kind of happy with 2, although the prospect of maybe having a girl is exciting (fingers crossed), but having 3 kids 3 and under and being outnumbered terrifies me. I will likely become an alcoholic.
junkytrunk I'm due August 16th. I'm getting more excited as I get used to the idea, but my only concern is that I started a new job last September so I don't qualify for FMLA

zpanjwani, ugh, that blows! Do you get any paid time off through your employer or anything? Or do you just get whatever vacation/PTO you have left?
ETA: I'm also hoping you have a girl. She'd be the best dressed toddler ever!
Thanks ladies! summergirl1211 I haven't talked to HR, but I'm pretty sure I'll have to use my vacation and get the rest unpaid. I'm not sure if they'll let me take vacation until my 1 year kicks in and then STD will start paying for my leave? laurski81 would you know how that works?

Definitely talk to HR and discuss... One of my good friends at work got pregnant right after starting at our company (9 years ago) and although when her son was born she had only been there for literally 9 months they told her they would honor the FMLA and she was ok to take 12 weeks. (and got the disability benefits too, so it was only 6wks PTO/unpaid time after that ran out - we accrue starting day 1 of employment).
Legally they of course don't have to stand by it, but depending on your company, they might just say "it's all good, you can take 12 weeks!"
I hope they do!
And congrats on the new job, I can't remember back that far to know if I knew that.... pregnancy brain and all....

I would check to see if your company has a maternity leave policy or just any other type of leave policy that is outside of FMLA. I would do this to see what they offer for unpaid leave since you don't qualify.
Usually if you have STD benefits through your employer you will need to use all of your PTO/Vacation/Sick time first and once that runs out the STD will kick in. Depending upon what your STD policy looks like it may cover you for 6-8 weeks (this will depend on vag vs. c-section birth). Any PTO you use first will reduce the number of weeks your STD will pay, unless you have a supplemental plan that you pay for yourself (and those can vary based upon what coverage you selected). So for example: If you have two weeks of PTO/Vacation/Sick to use you would use that first and get paid for that. Then say your STD is covering you for an 8 week c-section birth at 60% (I have no idea what your coverage is I am just using a number). Since you were already paid 2 Weeks through PTO you would only be paid an additional 6 weeks through your STD at 60%. The rest of your leave would be unpaid.
I hope that helps and let me know if you have any other questions!

zpanjwani, Just an FYI, but this happened to a friend of mine, and she was just shy of FMLA, like you. A lot of big companies will still honor it, so I would definitely check with HR. I know laurski81,responded, but I didn't read it, and she probably knows more than me. But good luck
