scout251 Peyton was just freaking out crying that I don't have any YOP- I gave her some strawberry milk. Ok seriously, I just used that technique of asking if she was sad that I was out of YOP and I will buy some more when we go shopping. At first it didn't work but I said it like 3 times and then I said Wow you want me to buy ALL of the YOP! You are so thirsty. So then she listened and was nodding along and said she would drink it all until it was gone.

Freak out over. Very cool.
Right?!? When you can manage to keep your cool and not get emotional about it, it really does work! Now if only I could deal with teeth brushing better...

We have drinkable yogurt but I don't think we have that specific brand
footloose, could you try to find that morning timer app that I've mentioned before? IT's called "happy kids timer - morning" DD1 can be difficult in the morning and this can be helpful. Also what PP mentioned about a toy or item they want to bring with.
I received the book scout251 referenced and read a bit last night. Ok so I get that you are supposed to acknowledge their emotions and not belittle how they are feeling. I know I need to read more but I can't come up with the words to deal with these specific scenarios that come up every. damn. day.
1. DS1 gets to watch videos before we start our bedtime routine. I go in to tell him it's time to shut off the videos and am always met with resistance. He wants to keep watching, obviously. I've tried the whole "the videos always turn off at X time" or try to get him excited about story time but it never works.
2. The whole toothbrushing resistance debacle.
3. He gets 3 books but he always asks for more and throws a fit when we say storytime is over and it's lights out.
microworm we also have toothbrushing battles so we were actually going to try a "problem solving" session tonight at dinner. See if she can tell us some things that would make the process better for her. I will report back & let you know how it goes. For the videos, have you tried the "I know it's hard to turn the videos off when you really like watching them. Don't you wish we could watch 100 videos every night?? What videos are your favorite? It would be awesome if we could watch 100 _______ videos!" For the books, do you read them in a chair or in bed? Maybe offer a choice? Like "do you want to read your last book on the chair together or in bed?" Or you could offer on the floor with pillows, etc. Something that would work for your space.
I've tried the "I wish we could do this all day" or "100 hours" and it didn't work. I tried like 8 different times.
I have failed you becole. 😔
It's okay. A lot of the cartoon examples were things that I try. I do a lot of redirection. And distraction. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. But the exaggeration stuff doesn't work for him at all. He just doesn't but it I don't think. My little skeptic.
