@olivegoose Do you know what symptoms made them get diagnosed with it?
She had a mental breakdown when her husband left her and was hospitalized. I don't know exactly what happened, but she's had extreme mental health issues forever. She's doing a lot better now that she's in therapy and takes her medication.
I'm not officially diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, however I exhibit all the symptoms. So, I have been living under the assumption that I have it since September. My introductory resource was Psych Central. It was their quiz and information pages on borderline personality disorder that were my jumping off point. Quiz: psychcentral.com/quizzes/borderline.htm Symptoms: psychcentral.com/lib/symptoms-of-borderline-personality-disorder/0001063
Since I'm trying to figure this out myself, I would love to have someone who's been there or going through the same to talk to about it.

@ordinaryamy Have you sought out counseling? There are many mental health disorders with overlapping symptoms or that can present with a comorbidity. I'm not suggesting you do or do not have BLPD but just want to make sure you're taking care of yourself.

@ordinaryamy I will second this. I posted because I was recently diagnose a few weeks back. I see my therapist weekly and my psychiatrist every 3 months. Sometimes BPD can be misdiagnosed for bipolar disorder and vice versa. I was misdiagnosed with bipolar a few years back. You can PM me any time if you want to talk. I don't know anyone IRL with BPD so that's the main reason I posted this.
And thank you for your answers @olivegoose! I hope she is doing well.
My post was way longer and explained that but I cut it. I was seeing a psychologist briefly through my university and he sent me to Emotion Regulation classes. When those ended I thought I would be fine, but I wasn't. When I went to book an appointment, I discovered my psychologist had left for a different job. So I got put on a waiting list and by the time they called, I wasn't a student anymore which means I was not covered. I was seeing a career counsellor and she took on that role until December when I finished classes. Fortunately, FI's firm has amazing mental health coverage and I can start seeing a therapist with his insurance after our wedding. Once that happens, I want to work hard towards a diagnosis borderline or other. You're both right, I'm not qualified to understand the differences between bipolar, borderline, and others especially when I do have co-morbidities. I suppose I just need somewhere to work through this, even if I'm mistaken.

Oh no it's fine! I just want you to be ok. It is extremely difficult, if not sometimes impossible, to deal with these issues without professional help. I'm glad you'll get some good insurance coverage soon.

@ordinaryamy Please don't take my comment to suggest you're doing anything wrong. It was purely out of concern that I asked. I'm glad you have a plan, I know it's hard to figure out what to do when insurance doesn't give you the coverage you need.

triplea598, Borderline is actually my primary diagnosis. I was diagnosed at 19. I'd be glad to answer any questions, although I might want to PM for sensitive stuff.
I haven't been formally diagnosed (last eval was 10+ years ago), but I meet all the diagnostic criteria. I have a B.S. in psych and my M.S. in mental health counseling, and it was during my Master's program that I started talking to my therapist about the possibility of having B(L)PD. I did my internship at a hospital psychiatric unit, and recognizing borderline symptoms in myself, it was hard for me to hear the way some of the other therapists talked about borderline patients. At the time, though, I wasn't sure if I was just diagnosing myself, which they always warn you about in mental health.
I worked with my therapist at the time and talked to one of the psychiatrists at the hospital as though I did have B(L)PD (though neither would give their diagnostic impression of me while I was working on the psych unit), and learned some DBT techniques and coping strategies to use for myself.
I just got a new health insurance policy with mental health coverage, so I plan to get another evaluation and start therapy again in the next few months.
