Mine might sound weird: LO is 9 weeks old. I know people are trying to be nice, but I'm getting tired of hearing "You look good for having a newborn!" If I didn't have a newborn, would I look like crap?
Yes, this! My variation is 'you look so good for having twins!' Oh ok, so if I had one baby you would be thinking...what exactly??
Completely agree about the new trend to post things like scentsy and jamberry on Facebook. So annoying.
Crab Rangoon is disgusting. Almost all people in my life really like it and I've tried it a couple of times and almost vom.
Going along with the "you look good" comment... People keep asking me "is he a good baby?" And I want to punch them in the face or say something rude and sarcastic like "no I want to send him back" I know people are trying to be nice and start a conversation but really what baby isn't a "good" baby?!
I love my pampered chef stuff. I will always go to those parties and find something to buy every single time. I've been hooked since my first party I went to when I was 21. The stuff holds up well and I use what I have often.
I hate stupid nail/purse/make up parties. I'd rather put out lit cigarettes on my skin than deal with those.
I have two kids. I know what it's like to be crushed when my toddler's park district preschool is called off due to weather. But I am also a teacher, so:
1. Canceling school due to "extreme cold" in the northern part of the country is absolutely ridiculous in all but the most impoverished of districts. It's cold here. All winter. Sometimes it's really cold. Dress your children appropriately. If you're still desperately worried about Precious Polly Poptart waiting at her bus stop for ten minutes, arrange a ride for her if you can't provide one yourself. What the hell do we think people in northern Minnesota, North Dakota, and THE ENTIRE NATION OF CANADA do all winter? Just stay home?
2. I overheard a mom at preschool lamenting her school's recent cancellation due to "extreme cold." Her kids were driving her nuts. She acknowledged that school administrators can never please everyone; some want their kids in school, some want them toasty warm at home. Her solution? Just keep school open and make attendance optional. I bit my tongue. Having seven kids present in a class of thirty is really educationally productive, let me tell you. Nothing like moving ahead only to backtrack when the three quarters of the class who don't show up return to school after the thaw. What I really wanted to say was, "So you'd just like your children's teachers to operate as a free daycare center for you so you can chill at home?"

kboyet Oh I do say stuff like that to people all the time. I say, "eh we've decided to keep him" or "we like this model pretty well but the cats are undecided". Heh. People mostly laugh with me but I don't really care. Like you said, what are we supposed to say to those comments? My husband's grandparents actually asked if we liked him. Nope. Not at all.
I get annoyed at this time if year when people make a big deal out of what they have up for Lent. Do you want an award? The goal of depriving yourself if something is to remind you if Christ's sacrifice, so suck it up that your not going to eat chocolate for a month or so, Christ died a horrendous death for your sake.

This 100%!! I'm born & raised in Chicago, and I don't think we EVER had school cancelled due to cold. My mom was fairly intelligent and dressed us appropriately for the weather. And to get a snow day it had to be a legit blizzard.
In regards to the school cancellations for extreme cold, I do agree. Since I was 16 I've always kept extra blankets and snow gear in case of breaking down, but it'd be hard to send extra gear for all the bus riding kids. We've also had some cancellations due to extreme cold because the busses were having trouble starting.
My UO is I don't really like dogs.. it's not like I would hate on a dog, I'll probably pet you if you come up to me. But I would never want one as a pet. I don't like how excited they get at every noise they hear, barking is obnoxious, how wet their noses are, when they slobber, having to take them outside, having to pick up their poop (and walk around with it if you're walking)... yeah, it's just not for me. I'd much rather scoop litter a couple times a week, which is probably another UO. I don't mind cleaning the litter box.

I agree!! I grew up in Minnesota and live in North Dakota now. School was never cancelled for cold weather, only snow and even then it had to be a lot. My mom made sure I was bundled up or would give me a ride to school when it was extremely cold. It was -20 this morning and we had a meeting at our daycare. I made sure LO was dressed warm and we went to the meeting. Even ran a few errands afterwards and are now snuggling together. I am so happy I got auto start installed in my car though. Makes going out in the cold a little more bearable.
I also dislike the trend of selling products on Facebook. I have been to a few parties and I don't mind them either. I usually buy something at them. But constantly promoting your products all over Facebook is annoying. At least you can hide those posts!
My UO: I don't like bacon or ham. Too salty and greasy!

This. Of course I think she's a good baby! What else would I say?
SO much this....as my dad says, There are no bad kids, only bad parents. They come to us perfect. Only we can screw them up.
Mine might sound weird: LO is 9 weeks old. I know people are trying to be nice, but I'm getting tired of hearing "You look good for having a newborn!" If I didn't have a newborn, would I look like crap?
I *like* direct sales parties. jewelry, nail stickers (especially the nail stickers!)*, pampered chef, handbags, candles, sex toys, whatever. I actually like them, I usually buy something, and I've been known to host one or two. I do not, however, like this new direct sales Facebook party thing. If I'm going to earn you some free swag, you can at least tidy your living room and give me a brownie and a glass of wine.
*unfortunately I am cut off from buying more nail stickers. I have enough to do my nails weekly for a year. but I'll still come and look!
I'm not a big of the inline parties either! I did participate in one when LO was a month old but I still prefer to physically go out browse the catalogue see the product drink some wine and eat lol
I don't understand the trend of making everything from scratch. I've seen it on Pinterest and a few food blogs. I have no interest in making my own Nutella, hamburger buns or all the components of s'mores myself. I have better things to do than recreate something someone else already does a pretty good job of doing.
This might be a hot button issue, but I genuinely believe that I'm a better mother to my stepson than his bio mom is, and it frustrates and saddens me to no end that I move mountains to be at his every concert, sporting event, play, open house, etc, now with a newborn, and she can't be bothered to attend ANY of these things. NONE. Plus, custody is 50/50, but we have him more and still have to pay her child support. Maddening.
ETA: Also, she doesn't work, but still sends her toddler to daycare, which is another UO for me. If you're a SAHM, cool, great, but if you're just staying home and not doing the mom part? I don't get it.
In college I was a nanny for a family whose mom was a SAHM. I worked about 35 hours a week so she could get manicures, spray tans, go shopping and hang out in her bedroom by herself (as a mom now, that stuff all sounds glorious but I feel like part of parenting is sacrificing all that 'me' time) . I'll never forget when they called me one Saturday morning at 6am to come watch the kids so they could sleep in. I stayed with them as long as I did because I loved the kiddos.
This actually sounds like the best life ever. I want her life. Just kidding. Kind of

Oh wow... This is me exactly regarding dogs! If I had a dog now and it started barking while LO is napping, I would probably flip.
I always want to like tempeh but I've never been a fan. I don't think I cook it right.
If you steam the tempeh for approx 15 minutes before using it takes out the slightly bitter flavor. And/ or you marinate it. If you marinate sliced up tempeh in red hot w soy sauce and a teaspoon of liquid smoke for a few hours then fry it up yummm so good!
My UO: I love being vegan and meeting other vegans. I know we get a bad rap for being obnoxious, and it bums me out. Plant based living just really works for me and my family.

This!
Wading even further into UO territory-- I would rather spend an hour a day cuddling/playing/sleeping with LO (or DH) than making baby food from scratch in a multi step cooking process!
hmm. I'm in MA so we don't really have super intense heat, although we do get very cold weather. My husband built them a coop (plans available online, you could also just buy one pre made) and in the winter we have a heat bulb in there as well as put their water on a metal thing that is constantly heated so it doesn't freeze. The chickens mostly hang out in the coop in extreme cold/snow, and their body heat keeps it warm. when it's really really hot (for us, that's like 85 degrees and up, but rarely ever hotter than 95 or so) they just seem to hang out in the shade more. we make sure they always have fresh water but otherwise they seem to handle it fine. I know we got a cold-tolerant breed (silver laced wyandottes) so I assume there are heat-tolerant breeds as well.
Thanks for the info. It's usually 100+ for a month or two each summer so hopefully we can find a hear resistant breed if we decide to get them.
We have over 80 chickens as well as other birds and we are in NM. It also gets super hot here and they do fine as long as they have water and shelter if needed. Lots of ours are free range so they will fly up in trees or bushes to roost.

Eggs: only scrambled, or maybe fried with the yolk broken up. Scrambled eggs with ketchup or Tabasco. Always.
MH orders his over medium. Gag.
Ketchup is not for eggs!!!! Ew!
And I loove runny eggs.
This! I love eggs over easy! I have bad memories of ketchup and eggs involving my childhood BFF barfing in the back of my mom's car, after breakfast and it running across the back seat, closer and closer to me until we could stop. Bark and ketchup and eggs will forever be associated in my mind!
My UO: everyone is counting down to summer in the cold winter, but I hate summer. I hate the heat and humidity. I would much rather bundle than be hot. Of course, if I had my way, it would be fall always.

I was vegan for a year and a half before I got pregnant. During my pregnancy all of my usual protein sources (beans, tempeh, tofu, and nuts) made me barf. And I craved cheese. Now that I've had LO I'm slowly moving back to vegan. Only meat a couple times a week and eggs everyday (from a family farm near me who's chickens I can see living in good conditions when I buy them). I'm easing back into it, although I may continue to eat eggs as long as i can buy them from that farm. We've even talked about raising our own hens for eggs.
I've never been a vegan, but I was a vegetarian for about 3 years before getting pregnant. Meat was appetizing and didn't make me puke. I still don't like bacon though, it grosses me out, and pepperoni.

I have had scrambled eggs with cheese two mornings on a row, and all this egg talk makes me want it again. And makes me want to beg my husband for a little trio of yard birds. lol
I'm late to everything this week, but who cares. My UO: I don't want to have another kid because I'm certain it won't turn out as perfect as this one (my first). She's well behaved, is very healthy, and is cute as can be. There is no chance I can repeat this, and I'm convinced the next one will be the complete opposite. Not to mention an unplanned c-sec was terrifying and depressing, and I am not up for that again, ever. My husband and family think I'm the worst for wanting only one kid, for whatever reasons. Why can't I just count my blessings and put all my love and devotion into raising one lovely little girl??
